TELEPLAY (Written Tycoon x Special Episode by Redoute’s Choice) Dynamic Syndications wonderful racemare is being asked for her biggest test in her racing career when she takes on
Gr1 company at Morphettville on Saturday May 2nd in the
TAB CLASSIC (Robert Sangster Stakes) a Weight-For-Age event over 1200m for Fillies and Mares.
It promises to be a
super contest with the field of 16 (14 mares and 2 Fillies) headed by champion
SUNLIGHT carrying 56.5kgs, whilst 3yo filly
LYRE carries 55.0kgs and boom 2YO filly
AWAY GAME is to carry just 47.0 kgs.
Being a
Weight-For-Age winner is very important as a telling class factor.
Only 3 runners in this event have
won at Weight-For-Age.
SUNLIGHT won the William Reid Gr1 1200m as a 3YO.
I AM EXCITED won the Gr2 Victory Stakes 1200m and
TELEPLAY won the 1300m Gr3 Heffernan Stakes.
Next, we add into the equation the
weather forecast. The track is currently a Good 4 but on Tuesday showers are predicted to develop and for Wednesday up to 25mm is predicted. That’s to be followed with further showers Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We anticipate that should the rain come along as predicted, the surface is likely to be rated on the worse side of Slow or into the Heavy range.
On Tuesday morning, the all-important
barrier draw was released.
SUNLIGHT drew wide in 16 but with 2 emergencies drawn underneath in barrier 7 and barrier 1, she may jump from barrier 14.
2yo AWAY GAME drew well in barrier 4 whilst our mare
TELEPLAY came up with barrier 2.
The
Speed Map looks to see plenty of early tempo with
5 of the 16 runners mapping on pace / leaders with just one length between them.
SUNLIGHT who likes to lead will need to be driven forward to cross from the deep, whilst a few drawn inside her such as Bam’s On Fire (B6) Savatiano (B9) wouldn’t want to make it easy for the champion cross them. Parked between Savatiano and Sunlight is Bella Vella (B13) who won’t want to let Sunlight cross her either, so Sunlight could be caught 4 deep or work hard to cross or must take a sit. None of those options are ideal. Right on their hammer is likely to be 2yo Away Game (B4) getting a lovely cart into the race, one back on the fence.
TELEPLAY with the soft draw should be able to let the speed battle unfold and be positioned a little closer to mid-field about
5-6 lengths off the quick tempo.
Trained by Mick Price and Mick Kent Jnr TELEPLAY resumed at Caulfield on 18 April as part of a lead-in programme aiming towards this Group 1 event.
The stable will present her well advanced and ready for this assignment of the
TAB CLASSIC thanks to a good foundation and the perfectly positioned kick-off event that saw blow out the cobwebs when running on strongly over 1200m carrying 58.0kgs to be beaten 2.0 lengths in the $200,000 VOBIS GOLD Sprint.
TELEPLAY drops 1.5kgs into this race.
TELEPLAY is a mare that likes to settle early in her races and gets back worse than mid-field and then attack the line the final 200m, so it promises to be an intriguing event, especially if the race pans out as it maps because if they overdo it up front, it may set up for swoopers late.
TELEPLAY returns to scale led-in by Dean & Adam Watt
TELEPLAY has a race record of 15 Starts: 5 Wins 1 Second, 3 Thirds and $437,650.
She is already a three-time Stakes Winner including a Gr3 Win at Weight-For-Age and she is also Gr3 placed.
An $85,000 yearling purchased by Dynamic Syndications from the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale,
TELEPLAY is a much-loved mare by her Ownership Team:
Dynamic Syndications Racing, Mrs B J Zions, Mr R Bau, Mr T J Gore, Mr NR Evans, Mr P J Pollard, Ms J Mariani, Mr G Georgiou, Mr W J Noonan, Mr D T Warburton, Mr S J Brereton, Mr G B Medved, Mr R A Elliott, C J R Racing, Matrix Racing, Mr S Najda, Mr D W Watt, Mr M A Wallace.
TELEPLAY has a unique race record with the fact she has won a Stakes Race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day the past two years in succession.
TELEPLAY winning the MSS Security Sprint LR
In 2018 she won the MSS Security Sprint over 1200m and in 2019 she won the Gr3 Maybe Mahal Stakes over 1400m.
TELEPLAY winning the Gr3 Maybe Mahal (Jim Beam) Stakes
Last preparation she was programmed to only to have a light Spring with just 4 race starts. After zero luck in her first two runs back from a spell, she then won her main target being the Gr3 Maybe Mahal Stakes over 1400m against her own sex defeating La Tigeressa and Sweet Scandal and followed that with an impressive win in the Gr3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes against the boys at Weight-For-Age defeating Home Of The Brave and Hey Doc (Hey Doc then at its next start won the Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes and followed that with a 2nd in the Gr2 Australia Stakes).
TELEPLAY winning the Gr3 Heffernan Stakes (Weight-For-Age)
TELEPLAY was given a short spell after the Kevin Heffernan, knowing we wanted to head towards the Gr1 assignment in Adelaide during their Winter Carnival.
She comes into this event now at her prime. Mature, much stronger than previous campaigns, she has continued to thrive since her first up run and on Saturday her trackwork was brilliant.
We are upbeat in the belief that she appears better than ever.
It was all about having the right foundation for her Adelaide assignment and we believe the 1200m whilst short of her best trip, is offset by the long run home at Morphettville, especially off an expected hot tempo, on a rain affected surface, dropping back to 56.5kgs and being at WFA are all positives.
Whilst another positive influence is the booking of Shayne Cahill to ride her. Shayne is a natural heavyweight rider so battles to get a lot of rides but he is currently sitting at a strike rate of 16% (8 of 50) with only Barend Vorster 18% (9 of 50) riding at a better strike rate compared against all the jockeys in this race.
TELEPLAY is already a three-time Stakes Winner (including two Gr3 Wins), whilst the Gr1 prizemoney here would be welcomed, it’s all about having a well-deserved opportunity to add vital Gr1 Black-Type to her race record before she retires to a life as a broodmare.
Importantly from a breeding prospect, already TELEPLAY on her pedigree and race performance is worth a tidy sum, but should she win a Gr1 her value skyrockets to well over the $1m threshold so its a massive result on offer should she be able to claim victory for her Dynamic Ownership Team.
TELEPLAY has one of the best pedigree’s in the Australia Stud Book.
Her Dam SPECIAL EPISODE is a winning 3/4 sister to multiple Gr1 Winning Champion Sprinter FIRST SEAL (she beat Winx home 3 times as a 3yo).
FIRST SEAL (by Fastnet Rock) last week at the Inglis Easter Sale had her first foal sell and it was the Sale Topper at $1.8 million. The colt by Snitzel was purchased by Coolmore Stud as a potential stallion prospect.
