Dynamic Syndications promising young stayer FRENZIED has his Top Team of Dynamic Owners "dreaming big" after back-to-back wins for their 3yo gelding has him well set on a path towards the Queensland Derby in a month’s time.
Bred to stick like “chewing gum to a blanket,” the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained youngster with the rockstar looks has continued to make massive improvement race by race and the further they go, the better he will become.
Purchased as a potential Melbourne Cup candidate in the future, FRENZIED is by Melbourne Cup winner AMERICAIN from PARIS TRYST - a daughter of Melbourne Cup winner LET’S ELOPE.
So there is no shortage of stoutness genetics pulsating through the veins of our gelding.
FRENZIED made it back-to-back wins and his second win from just 3 career starts when he overcame plenty of trouble in transit to score a barnstorming victory over 2000m in Race 8 at Kembla Grange on Saturday, the Anna Jarvis Class 1 Set Weights for 3yo’s and upwards.
Frenzied set a class record 2:02.96 when claiming victory by 0.1 lengths over Fast Train with 0.5 lengths back to 2nd favourite Brilliance Squared in 3rd whilst race favourite Brilliant Mind finished well back in 9th spot 5 lengths away.
If you didn’t see it you wouldn’t believe it, so watch the replay and see what has the team excited about his future.

Race tactics were typical of a Gai Waterhouse trained galloper – lead or be at the girth of the leader – so you can imagine our surprise when the horse was slowly away and then got squeezed between runners 3 strides after the jump, so as the dust settled, instead of being on pace we found Frenzied well back 10 lengths off the speed in second last spot.
Jockey Winona Costin knew she was out of position but it was a long race, so she elected to sit back and allow the horse to balance underneath her and get into a hacking rhythm as they ran down the back straight. Frenzied travelled the next 600m at the back of the field with only one pair behind him before starting to sneak ground along the fence.
As they ran down the side from the 800m to the 600m, he was rolling along well but then the field quickly bunched at the 550m and Winona had nowhere to go, being tucked up on the fence and the horse in front of Frenzied coming back rapidly, causing Frenzied to be heavily checked, dropping back to last spot and losing all momentum under his 57.5kgs.
As those watching Frenzied were getting ready to tear up their tickets, the field swung for home and Frenzied still had nowhere to go, no momentum and was last spotting the leaders 5 lengths.
At this point there was almost no hope for Frenzied as Winona tried to extract him from a wall in front of her by turning Frenzied sideways to angle out wide. Then at the 250m, those in front started to wander about so Frenzied was balanced up again and spotting the leader a minimum of 4 lengths.
At the 200m Winona had to stop riding and pushed her way through a narrowing gap to the outside of the eventual third placegetter Brilliance Squared, who was 2 lengths ahead of Frenzied whilst eventual runner-up Fast Train was another 2 lengths ahead of Brilliance Squared.
Connections at this stage were just hopeful of seeing their horse work to the line because stayers don’t have a turn of foot - or do they?
From the 150m to the 100m Frenzied picked-up 2 lengths and was now eyeballing Brilliance Squared with Fast Train full of running 2 lengths away in the lead.
Wow – we were going to run second, how good a run was this!
Nobody told Winona or Frenzied that second would be ok and with strong strides, by the 50m mark he was a length off the leader and closing fast.
However it was the last 30m that things really changed as with an awesome explosion of stamina and speed, he reeled in the leader in the shadows of the post to claim victory from the jaws of defeat.
Wow what a run !
Connections on course were left stunned – no horse should win a race with the amount of trouble he found, let alone do it in class record time.
Winona returned Frenzied to scale to report that it was awesome and his best work was his last 100m and he wants further being so strong through the line. He felt enormous wouldn’t blow out a candle and wants 2400m already.
Whilst it may come a bit quick for Frenzied just through a lack of experience and racecraft, there is no doubt he can stay and that is a huge advantage for a 3yo. So he will get his chance to consolidate his progression either running at Randwick in 2 weeks over 2000m or heading to Brisbane to run in the Grand-Prix over 2200m the traditional lead up for the Derby.
We are not allowing ourselves to get carried away with hype but there is certainly potential here. He has only raced at provincial level however it’s the way he is doing it that suggests he is better than average and as they get up in trip, it’s hard to find those that can actually stay. Also with the fact that inexperienced horses simply don’t overcome trouble in a race to win, especially in a record time.
It’s up to him how far he will progress but he has the foundation now to be exciting.
Frenzied was bred by Colleen Bamford of Daisy Hill Stud in Victoria, Kevin and Colleen Bamford part owned and raced the sire AMERICAIN to win the Melbourne Cup and have supported the stallion with quality mares. Colleen loved this colt and when we purchased him, both Kevin and Colleen purchased a share to race him with us. It would give the Bamford’s a great thrill if they can have black-type success in the future with one of Americain’s progeny and they are in the right stable to achieve that result as Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott certainly know what it takes to have their horses ready on grand final day.
