Australia's three (3) eventers will kick off their
Olympic campaigns with the
dressage phase of the competition next
Friday, 30 July.
This story appears on Racing.com written by James Tzaferis released 22/7/21.
It was no fluke that the first thoroughbred
Shane Rose ever broke in was
Bradbury's Luck.
BRADBURY'S LUCK
The 2005 Magic Millions Classic winner is part of an expanding honour roll of star racehorses to have passed through the system at
Rose's Bimbadeen Park in Werombi, an hour west of Sydney.
He's worked with gun colts
Capitalist and Hellbent, as well as glamour fillies
September Run, Funstar and Egg Tart, just to name a few who the gifted horseman has started on the path to Group 1 glory.
When he's not working with future stars of the turf, he can often be found riding thoroughbreds who didn't quite measure up to stardom on the track.
Rose is one of Australia's premier eventers and many of his greatest wins have come aboard former racehorses.
Potentially his best mount, and the horse he won a silver medal on at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, was the brilliant off-the-track thoroughbred All Luck.
Although he won't be riding a former racehorse when
he chases equestrian gold at the
Tokyo Olympics - his mount at this year's Games is a hulking warmblood gelding called
Virgil - those who know his connection to the
racing industry are throwing their support behind him.
Adam Watt from Dynamic Syndications doesn't mince words when he talks about Rose.
ADAM WATT & SHANE ROSE
"I think he's the best horseman in Australia," Watt said.
"First and foremost, he's a wonderful bloke and you wouldn't come across a kinder or more caring human being.
"When you see the man with a horse, it's something to behold.
"If anyone could speak to horses, I reckon he's the best chance of anyone I've ever met.
"He's got a wonderful set-up there at Bimbadeen Park and he does all of our breaking, as well as the lion's share of our spelling and pre-training as well.
"I've never once had a trainer ask for one of our horses to go back to be re-broken and I love his kind and patient approach."

Gary Portelli is another who has first-hand experience of
Rose's gift with thoroughbreds and uses him to educate and pre-train the bulk of his horses.
"I come from a similar equestrian background - I was involved in showing - and I cut my teeth breaking in racehorses for a living when I was up the country in Orange," Portelli said.
"The way I was taught to break horses involved teaching horses to have a good mouth, have contact with your riders' hands, how to bend properly, how to collect up - all these different things that I feel helps the horse when they go into the racing world.
"When I found out that Shane was breaking in racehorses, I knew straight away that I'd be getting a fantastic horseman and he'd break the horses in the way I wanted them broken in.
"My riders are some of the best trackwork riders at Warwick Farm and when they get on the young horses, they really enjoy riding them because they come beautifully broken in and easy to ride.
"He's made my job so much easier.
"He's just such a horseman, he's such an easygoing bloke and nothing fazes him when he's in the saddle."
Rose isn't the only member of
Australia's eventing team at Tokyo who boasts a
strong connection to the thoroughbred.
Andrew Hoy, who will compete at his
eighth Olympics, made his name on the back of ex-racehorses when he was emerging through the ranks as a young rider in Queensland.
Hoy partnered the brilliant thoroughbred
Kiwi to gold medal glory at the
Barcelona Games in 1992 and, recently, has worked alongside
Racing Victoria to promote the
transition of retired racehorses into equestrian careers.
Stuart Tinney's greatest success also came aboard a thoroughbred, when he claimed team gold on rangy gelding
Jeepster at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
In Tokyo,
Hoy will ride anglo-arab
Vassily de Lassos, while
Tinney will be aboard the warmblood-thoroughbred cross
Leporis.
DEAN WATT with the Magic Millions Trophy won by BRADBURY'S LUCK
HOOFNOTE: Shane Rose first breaker was
BRADBURY'S LUCK which was
our MAGIC MILLIONS Winner.
Shane is our exclusive horse breaker and educator and has been the man
we entrust our valuable yearlings too.
It's no coincidence our wonderful racetrack success is a result of having Shane as a Team Member with Dynamic Syndications.
OUR COLT
Shane earlier this year broke in our
SAVABEEL x PASION CHEVAL Colt being trained by
Ciaron Maher Racing.
Shane was so impressed with the colt that he purchased a share to race him with us.
SHANE ROSE
When one of
Australia's elite horsemen advised how much they liked the horse and that they
wanted to buy a share in him there would not be a better
endorsement in the
thoroughbred industry than that.
We have just a few shares to go to complete this promotion so if you wish to
back Shane's judgement and
join us in racing such a terrific prospect contact
ADAM WATT at Dynamic Syndications on 02 9540 1511 or 0409 464 378 and have a chat.
It may be the best phonecall you will ever make.
