Regional television viewers are now able to tune in to free-to-air coverage of Victorian thoroughbred racing after a frustrating black-out period was finally brought to an end, reports Racing.com.
PRIME 7 announced that regional users in Victoria, New South Wales and WA, as well as those in the ACT and large parts of Queensland, can now access free-to-air vision of Victorian racing through
Channel 68.
The expanded coverage means that, in theory at least, the coverage, which already reaches metropolitan areas via
Channel 78, can now be seen by 90 per cent of the Australian population.
However, users have to have a MPEG-4 compliant television, PVR or set-top box to access the signal.
RV Chief Executive, Bernard Saundry, said the expansion of the coverage was a great result for regional viewers.
"The goal throughout our entire broadcast negotiations has been to ensure that vision of Victorian racing was available to more people, in more locations and on more platforms than ever before and today we move another step closer to our end goal," Saundry said.
"I want to thank both PRIME 7 and Seven West Media for their support of our regional viewers who are vital to the success and growth of our industry.
“Likewise, I want to thank regional punters, fans and participants who have been extremely patient over the past month where they've had restricted access to vision of Victorian racing."
Hopefully, broadcasts will become available for via Foxtel subscribers shortly so those with this service are not required to leave Foxtel to gain vision on free-to-air.
Also viewers can have the vision with them via smartphones or tablets and on their desktop computers.
The coverage being broadcast by Racing.com is outstanding and thoroughly worth watching.
