SAFFRON BEACH is giving
leading female UK trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam strong claims of becoming the
first woman to train the winner of
The Oaks at Epsom to be run on Friday in the UK.
SAFFRON BEACH
SAFFRON BEACH was
unbeaten in her two starts as a 2yo, the daughter of stallion
New Bay from Falling Petals was narrowly beaten on her return to the sport in the
Gr3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket before performing the best of the British brigade when runner-up to Aidan O'Brien's
Mother Earth in the
Gr1 1000 Guineas.
While a tilt at the
Gr1 Irish Guineas was considered,
SAFFRON BEACH connections ultimately decided to step up a
half mile (800m) in distance for her second tilt at Classic glory, following an exciting piece of work at Epsom last week.
Jane Chapple-Hyam was very bullish about her filly’s prospects when interviewed saying:
"The race and the other horses won't bother her – it will be the crowds, as she has never seen a crowd. I will probably put a red hood (ear muffs) on her until the start, just because she hasn't seen a crowd. The way to dot the I's and cross the T's is to keep the lid on her, as she is strong to lead up. It is a big thrill to be part of this, so let's hope we can go there and do the best."
Scheduled as Race 5 at 4:30pm,
SAFFRON BEACH (number 6) from barrier 7 rates well into the event which is a field of
14 of the best 3yo fillies tackling the 2400m event and currently the track is rated as a good surface.
SAFFRON BEACH is a current
12/1 hope behind the Aidan O’Brien trained 5/2 favourite
Santa Barbara, 5/1
Zeyaadah and
Snowfall, 8/1
Teona and 9/1
Dubai Fountain.
Adian O’Brien’s Ballydoyle powerhouse trains
5 of the 14 runners engaged in the Group 1 Classic.
Interestingly, despite the luxury price,
SAFFRON BEACH rates very highly across all data leading into the event and most importantly, despite being tested at the trip for the first time, she has the female pedigree to support the belief she will handle the step up in trip with ease.
The filly has only had the 4 career starts for 2 wins and 2 Seconds.
Both wins as a 2yo both at 1400m including the
Gr3 Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket before a spell.
She resumed as a 3yo for twice runner-up positions. First run back on 14 April, she finished 3/4 length behind Sacred over 1400m in the
Gr3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket, before a last start runner-up on 2nd May by 1 length to Mother Earth in the
Gr1 1000 Guineas over the mile trip
at Newmarket.
Team Dynamic will be hoping that SAFFRON BEACH can get the job done.
Already a Gr3 winner and Gr1 placed, SAFFRON BEACH is closely related to the gorgeous grey filly we purchased at the Magic Millions earlier this week.
LOT 1439 our FROSTED (US) ex MAURITIUS Filly sees SAFFRON BEACH placed prominently in her 3rd Dam.
Since the catalogue page for the sale was printed,
SAFFRON BEACH has
added her
Gr1 placing in the
1000 Guineas to the page, and the prospect of adding further Classic black-type to the pedigree is enticing.
It was the
strength of the female family and the
well-balanced genetics of the mating that drove us to
inspect the filly in the first instance, and then when she
matched the excitement of the page to the
brilliance of her conformation, this
gorgeous grey was always going to be a
main target for us the sale.
Note: We did not buy our filly to be a speedy 2yo prospect.
We purchased the filly to attempt to do what close relation
SAFFRON BEACH is doing,
running in Classic Races as a 3yo over 1600m – 2400m.
Our filly has a
female family saturated in 1600m – 2400m success at the highest level.
To give her every opportunity to reach her targets, we have given the filly to the
CIARON MAHER Racing Stables to polish her into an elite prospect.
The fact that she is also
Super VOBIS and VOBIS GOLD eligible and has been
paid up for the series along with a pay up for the
Magic Millions Race Series that includes the
Magic Millions Staying race for $1million, our latest acquisition is sure to inspire.
Everybody loves a grey !
With a 5% Share Price of just $4,400 inc GST and All Costs to 1 September 21, and with how
strong the broodmare market is for quality of the track mares when their racing days conclude, this
exceptional looking gorgeous grey is just the ticket for the equine lottery and to
ensure good residual value upon retirement.
We have stacked the odds in her owners favour as much as possible and the price is amazing.
Plus, the family is
alive with runners aiming to add further black type to the pedigree page and could
mushroom in bold Type in the near future.

Fingers Crossed for SAFFRON BEACH in Friday night’s OAKS at Epsom, however whatever happens there, our Filly’s close relation
SAFFRON BEACH is a high class Gr3 Winning / Gr1 placed filly taking on the best of the best.
We trust that in the future our owners can experience similar excitement and emotions with our gorgeous grey.
