There was a belated
Christmas Gift for the
Dynamic Owners of ROCKIN’ RUGA (Fastnet Rock x Sevruga) after their horse scored a strong and
decisive win at Newcastle on Boxing Day.
ROCKIN' RUGA proves too strong at Newcastle on Boxing Day
The Jason Deamer trained ROCKIN’RUGA ($4.60) was third-up from a spell and had the services of leading Newcastle based rider
Aaron Bullock and the Dynamic Duo got the job done in Race 2 the Coastline Pools & Spas Class 2, 1250m Hcp, carrying 58.5kgs when he recorded a 0.52 length win over Roosevelt ($2.30 fav) with Undoubted ($8.0) 0.06 length away in third with a slick time of 1:13.44.
ROCKIN’ RUGA looked a treat in the yard and raced accordingly.
He had been a dual acceptor on the day when also engaged for the Bm64 1350m as topweight, however we chose this race as the most suitable option and the result vindicated our thought processes.
However, it wasn’t all as anticipated because our speed map had Partners leading the fence and
ROCKIN’ RUGA would come across and sit at its girth but as the gates flung back, Partners went ballistic dashing out to a quick break.
ROCKIN’ RUGA pushed up to sit behind the leader and then there was a charge of the light brigade from out wide as they came across, trying to get close to the fence as Sparks, Key To Glory and Oakfield Target all pushed up and as that was happening Roosevelt took hold to ease out of the speed battle.
By the time they had run a furlong, Partners led the fence with Oakfield Target slipping up to sit at its girth. Three deep on speed was Key To Glory with
ROCKIN’ RUGA getting the gun run 4th the fence 3 lengths off the speed with Sparks at our girth. Two lengths back was All Day with Roosevelt at its girth with Undoubted 2 lengths back with Classic Man.
Passing the 800m once the field had obtained their running order, the leader Partners skipped away by 3 lengths on the second placed horse and Aaron Bullock on
ROCKIN’ RUGA wasn’t having any of that, so he started to creep forward along the fence, staying in contact with the leader.
As the field commenced the turn into the straight, Partners tried to slip clear putting up a 4-length gap but
ROCKIN’ RUGA was in hot pursuit and Roosevelt giving chase down the centre of the track.
At the 350m
ROCKIN’ RUGA peeled out from behind him and by the 300m had reeled in the leader and poked his head in front, with Roosevelt closing on the outside a further 2 lengths away. Partners tried to dig in and held well until the 200m when
ROCKIN’ RUGA gained control.
At the 100m he was a clear length in front but the extra work he had done in the run to keep tabs on the leader started to take its toll and despite running on fumes, he dug deep to never be in danger.
The placegetters were trying hard and reduced the margin over the last 20 metres to a half-length but were never going to run down
ROCKIN’ RUGA.
AARON BULLOCK returns to scale on ROCKIN' RUGA
This win was a tremendous result for our top trainer (and great bloke) Jason Deamer and it was assisted thanks to an exceptional ride by experienced Aaron Bullock. We thank both men for this result and of course we acknowledge and thanks the toughness and brave effort of
ROCKIN’ RUGA.
