After performing so well at her most recent start when
4th in the Gr3 Angst Stakes at Randwick,
Gai Waterhouse and co-Trainer Adrian Bott are keen to gauge how SAVAPINSKI measures up against the mares in Melbourne over the Spring.
SAVAPINSKI in action at Randwick
Savapinski headed down the highway to Melbourne on Friday night and arrived safely at Gai and Adrian’s Flemington stables on Saturday.
Gai has identified the Matriarch Stakes Gr2 2000m on the 11th November as the mare’s main aim.
Savapinski has three wins from five starts with two metropolitan fourth placings.
"She's still learning but she's been going really well and showing sharp improvement even though it may only read like provincial form," Bott said last week.
"It may seem like we're throwing her in the deep end a bit, but she deserves a crack at a races like these.”
Bott said "Savapinski proved in the Angst Stakes she deserved a springboard into races in Melbourne with the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington on November 11 our target."
Savapinski will be nominated for the 1600m Gr3 Tessio Stakes for mares under SW and Conditions on
Cox Plate Day 28/10 as her final hit-out however if she misses a start, then there is a back-up race over 2040m, an Open Company Mares event on
Manikato Night 27/10 – (the evening before).
On what the mare has shown, connections are hopeful that
Savapinski can achieve black-type this spring and be better again in next autumn.
We know she is on an upward spiral and appears to have the raw talent to handle at a competitive level the step up in class.
The team were very confident of a bold performance in the Gr3 Angst which she achieved and now gives her trainers a more accurate guide for placement in the future.
