Three-time Olympic medallist
Shane Rose
headlines a
nine (9)-member Australian equestrian team
for the
Paris 2024 Olympics
, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) have announced.
SHANE ROSE
We can
now share the competition timetable with our friends and followers as we get ready to
cheer-on
Shane
, his horse
Virgil
, and the whole
Australian Equine Team
on their pursuit for
Gold
in Paris.
The Dynamic 51-year-old
Shane Rose
is the
oldest
athlete representing Australia in Paris 2024
whilst the youngest member is just
14-years-old.
Shane
is set to make his
fourth appearance at the Summer Games
, and
lead Australia’s charge in eventing
, alongside
Kevin McNab and Chris Burton.
Shane Rose
has
Won a Team Medal at all three of his previous Olympic appearances
, with a
Silver at Beijing 2008
, a
Bronze at Rio 2016
and a
Silver at Tokyo 2020.
Silver in Beijing 2008
Bronze in Rio 2016
Silver in Tokyo 2020
Shane
also has lived through the
ups-and-downs
of
Olympic competition.
At
23, Shane
was selected
a
member of the
1996
Atlanta Olympic Team
.
Shane
and his horse arrived
in the USA at the venue only to become a
late scratching
after his horse presented lame and Australia’s Reserve Rider and Horse took Shane’s position on the team.
Shane watched from the grandstand as the Team went on and WON GOLD.
Otherwise, this
should have been Shane’s fifth (5th) Olympic appearance.
Shane Rose and Kevin McNab
were part of the
Australian Eventing team
three years ago that won the
Silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics
.
Andrew Hoy, was the third member of that Team in Tokyo, but he and his horse has been
out-of-form
for an extended time, so Hoy was dropped for Chris Burton, who was part of the Eventing Team that won Bronze in Rio 2016.
Jumping:
Edwina Tops-Alexander
is set to make her
fifth appearance
at the Summer Games and will spearhead the
Australian Jumping Team
, which includes
debutants
Hilary Scott
and
Thaisa Erwin.
Australia will compete with an all-female jumping team at the Olympics for the first time.
Edwina Tops-Alexander,
who made her Olympic debut at Beijing 2008, will also become Australia’s first five-time Olympian showjumper at Paris 2024.
Dressage:
Australia will be represented by
Simone Pearce, Jayden Brown
and
Will Matthew
in dressage. Pearce returns for her second Summer Games while Brown and Matthew will make their Olympic debuts.
Equestrian was first included in the
Paris Olympics of 1900
however Australia only first competed in the sport at the
Melbourne Olympics of 1956.
Australia boasts a
proud history in Equestrian pursuits
with
14 Olympic medals (six gold, four silver and four bronze) won to date.
The equestrian eventing, dressage and jumping competitions at the
Paris 2024 Olympics
