SIGNIFICANT RULE by MEDAGLIA D'ORO (USA) from CROWNED GLORY was facing the starter for just the third time in his racing career having been
runner-up at both his previous starts beaten a
half-head on debut and by a
nose when resuming for us over 1200m on 10 June at Gosford.
On Saturday at Newcastle, SIGNIFICANT RULE was second-up and out to 1400m in Race 4, the PDF Foods Maiden Plate.
SIGNIFICANT RULE and DYLAN GIBBONS in pre-race parade
A trip that suited his pedigree far better that the
two 1200m he’s been over previously, the
GAI WATERHOUSE and Adrian Bott trained SIGNIFICANT RULE displayed the stable’s noted trait of
“BONE and MUSCLE” when he
blew away his peers with a
sensational Win in a daring
“catch me if you can” style run that demoralised those who were chasing.
SIGNIFICANT RULE Won by 1.58 lengths over Trojan Hero ($61) with River Hero ($8) a further 4.2 lengths back in third spot and the Waller trained Volterra which was sent out $3.10 favourite finished fourth 6.6 lengths behind SIGNIFICANT RULE.

For
our loyal owners it was
“money for jam” as the punters got it totally wrong. Opening up a short price favourite and with the right form, the market just kept throwing it on two other runners, VOLTERRA (4th $4.80 into $3,10) and GO GAZZA ($9.00 into $4.80) (6th beaten 8.01 lengths) and as a result, they abandoned
SIGNIFICANT RULE who drifted from
$2.15 to $5.00. There was absolutely no logic behind the drift, and no one told
SIGNIFICANT RULE and our owners rubbed their hands together in glee.
It’s a very rewarding emotion when a plan comes together. Adam Watt at Dynamic had
targeted this race and wanted to run at Newcastle based upon the superior drying ability of the track, plus its roomy expanses. At nominations, it looked the right race from a speed map perspective and disclosed form, and after acceptances, the race was a field of 11 runners. With two scratchings, 9 runners faced the starter.
Adam Watt and Team Dynamic have been using the services of
gun apprentice Dylan Gibbons for a while with our country runners whenever we could book the promising rider. The son of leading local rider
Andrew Gibbons was identified for his horsemanship skills we had placed him in the rising star category.
Well before nominations closed
Adam swooped and booked Dylan, who has the luxury of a
3.0kg claim at the provincials. Take 3.0kgs off to carry 56.0kgs in a set weights race with a talented rider aboard is a
masterstroke and Dylan rode the perfect race to score.
In typical Gai Waterhouse style of “take no prisoners” jumping from barrier 8 in a field of 9, Dylan was advised that the horse is a natural go forward horse who likes to get into a rhythm. He doesn’t have a turn of foot and will want a trip beyond a mile in a few starts time, the key to winning is to bowl along in front, get him settled into a clip that can peel off high elevens, low twelve splits which will have those chasing off the bit on a rain affected track, and then, kick on the point of the turn. His fitness should gap them and build a large enough gap that those chasing won’t be able to catch him.
Job Done! Dylan rode the perfect race. On jumping Dylan took his first 200m to get the horse in a rhythm and targeted the point of the back straight first turn to find the fence giving
SIGNIFICANT RULE a straight line and clear passage run. Handsome King trained by Joe Pride, a 33/1 shot with no chance on exposed form, tried hard to push up and hold us out, but Dylan riding to instruction, was not going to be dictated to by that runner and easily crossed, as the field turned to run down the side of the track.
Maintaining a two length lead, Dylan was able to pinch a breather from the 800m to 600m when they peeled off a 12.22 split and as they started to swing into the home straight,
Dylan asked SIGNIFICANT RULE to extend and the horse responded, putting up a 3 length advantage as they passed the 300m.
SIGNIFICANT RULE in full flight
Passing the 200m
SIGNIFICANT RULE and Dylan had increased the margin to about 5 lengths with nothing coming out of the pack to give chase.
The early tempo and second-up fitness started to take its toll at the 150m as our horse started to run out of gas and get his head up and float around, but Dylan kept his mind on the job. Only one runner chased the last 150m and it tried hard, but it was still 1.58 lengths away as we crossed the line.
Past the Post
Take a bow Dylan Gibbons, you simply can’t ride a horse any better than that. Great placement by Adam into the right race and great selection of picking up the boom apprentice and taking the claim.
Stunning looker - SIGNIFICANT RULE with Dylan Gibbons returning after the Win
Upon returning to the
Winner’s Circle, Dylan reported:
“Super Win today, we had to do a little bit more work than I would have liked but being a 1400m, we had plenty of time and a straight line to do it, and when we crossed over to the rail, and he got into his rhythm, he just seemed to be in a very happy place, and when I asked him to quicken up, not that he showed a turn of foot, he keeps whacking away at the same speed. He’s still very raw and immature (mentally) you can see when I get the whip out, he wanted to run all over the inside fence. So, once he levels out, and maybe a set of headgear, he will be even better for it. So, it was a good to get a result today since he did so much wrong.”
DYNAMIC DUO wearing big grins as they return to the Winner's Circle !
Big thanks to Gai and Adrian and our Team at Tulloch Lodge, who turned the horse out looking super for his second up assignment and most importantly, well-done SIGNIFICANT RULE for being a genuine racehorse and trying hard.
What a Handsome boy SIGNIFICANT RULE is ! Post race with his strapper

Team Dynamic purchased SIGNIFICANT RULE at the Magic Millions last August in the GOOREE PARK Dispersal, on the recommendation of Gooree’s Andrew Baddock and Mack Griffiths, and his two race starts he’s had for us have been for a Nose second and a 1.58 length win, both at the provincials, so we can’t ask for anything more as we eye off better races in the future.
This win by SIGNIFICANT RULE became DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS 713th Overall Race Win, our 59th Race Win for the 2020/21 racing season and he became our 252nd Individual Winner.
