Dynamic Syndications Magic Millions graduate SLUSH FUND (3yo Gelding Capitalist ex Sabot) had a recent stable move from Ciaron Maher Racing to Jason Deamer at Newcastle, and the change of scenery has done the trick with our horse as he recorded a courageous all the way win under the steering of our “go-to” jockey Ash Morgan to score at the Tuncurry-Forster track and in the process became Dynamic Syndications 299th Individual Winner.
In conjunction with the Maher & Eustace stable, it was agreed after its last start that the horse would suit a more laid-back stable environment than the pressure cooker of a busy Sydney stable, and we identified that our important team member Jason Deamer would be the right way to go so we could aim at some country grade races north of Newcastle to build the horse’s confidence.
SLUSH FUND had been to the races 5 times for 5 duck eggs before relocating, however despite not having worried the scorer, his runs had been acceptable at provincial grade whilst last start we took him to Canberra when he finished 5th of 9 runners but was only 0.2 length from the runner-up in a blanket finish for the minor prizemoney.
Third-up here, the horse arrived from Ciaron and David in sensational order, and our wonderful horseman Jason Deamer kept him ticking over into this event.
We all acknowledge and thank the Maher & Eustace Team for their terrific work in laying these foundations to allow us to grab this victory.
SLUSH FUND won Race 5, the TUNCURRY BEACH BOWLING CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300m ridden by Ash Morgan. On the Good 4 surface, he ran a Time of: 1:17.52 with a slick Last 600m of: 33.42.
He picked up the $13,950 first prize plus a $5,625 BOBS Bonus as well.
This was a race that Adam Watt at Dynamic Syndications identified straight after the Canberra run. Under the weight scale, he was thrown into the event carrying the limit of 55.0kgs as a 3yo gelding taking on the older horses.
Add-in he was now peaking in fitness third-up, plus a soft draw in barrier 4 and the addition of winkers for the first time, the horse was ideally placed.
The only thing surprising us off our ratings was the generous price he paid. Our ratings had him a clear $2.80 favourite, yet he blew like a southerly buster and drifted from $3.80 to $6.50.
We intended to be positive in the run, but surprisingly we landed in front on the fence after the first 100m. From here it was tactical as Ash peeled off some nice even sectionals before putting the hammer down.
Leading from the 1,000m marker, eventual runner-up then came up and sat at our girth as the pair had a two-length margin over the balance of the field, who were spread out over a dozen lengths. Still in front rounding into the home straight, he was joined and eyeballed by runner-up Sidenay who swept past us by a half-length, with Miss Capricorn (4th) sweeping up 3 deep to join in the challenge.
The trio pulled a gap on those chasing, and at the 250m Ash still hadn’t pushed the go-button but passing the 200m, it was on in earnest and SLUSH FUND realised he had to keep going and lengthened beautifully to reel-in the leaders who were all out and zoomed past them with 50m to run.
It was an easy final 25m under hands and heels as he coasted to the post without a care.
SLUSH FUND (55.0kgs) ($6.50) defeated Sidenay (56.5kgs)($4.20) by 0.74 length with Jack Of Aces (60.0kgs) ($2.80 Fav) 1.11 lengths away in third.
Post-Race Sky Racing commentators said: “Well Jason Deamer, his horse was a little hard to load up, but he gets the money. The Deamer stable is one of the most astute stables going around, and he’s got a brilliant, brilliant record. He beats Sidenay, which has run good, Jack Of Aces third just starting to warm up late. He’s only had the one runner here today Jason Deamer, and he normally goes home with a good one.
“His guy, he’s just entered Jason’s yard, dropped two and a half kilos, a nice positive ride, from Ash Morgan as well, winkers went on today for the first time and he’s out of Maiden company at start number six.”
Gary Kleise then interviews Jason Deamer and starts with: “You always sneak one here (Tuncurry) and you home with a win don’t you.”
Jason answered: “Oh yeah, it’s always been a good plan, but I can’t take too much credit, I’ve only had him for a couple of weeks. He arrived from Ciaron Maher and David Eustace yard in obviously fantastic order, you saw him walking around, he looks a picture, so I just kept him ticking over and give him a bit of feed, and a lovely ride by Ash today. I think he had just been missing the kick a bit previously, and we just added the winkers and just got Ash to be nice and positive from the start and everything worked out well from there.”
Gary then said: “You might pick up a few races with this guy?”
Jason responded: “Yeah, hopefully, obviously a big thank you to Dynamic Syndications, they moved him from one to another and I was the lucky one to be on the winning end. It was a nice little drive here today, two hours up the road and it’s always good to get a winner. Thank you.”
Then Ash Morgan was interviewed with the commentary starting: “Although this horse had five starts and been unplaced, last start he was beaten nearly four lengths, but the winner won by a margin. You take the winner out and it was a real blanket finish. He hadn’t been far away in a couple of runs last preparation as well, so back to country grade here today after contesting the provincials first-up and was much better here, and a lovely ride and a very good trainer, very good judge and he’s not frightened to travel. Well done Ash, your first sit on this guy and you gave him a nice positive ride.”
Ash answered: “Yeah, he was good. He’s been a little bit funny in the gates, but he broke really well, and I was happy to let Jean (Sidenay) go but he (SLUSH FUND) was happy, and I let him flow. He put a good length on me on straightening and I was a little bit disappointed that he didn’t have anything to give, but when I gave him a flick, he really found, and he was really cozy through the line. Jason’s deadly when he gets these horses, so good effort.”
Ash was then asked: “It looked like he hit a flat spot but came again late?”
Ash answered: “Yeah, I might have just backed it off a little too much possibly, to give him a chance to use their turn of foot where my guy was just going to keep staying. So, he’ll get further because he over raced early on in his career, but he was good then, I was really happy. Thank you.”
A big Thank You to Ciaron Maher – David Eustace and the Team at Ciaron Maher Racing for the excellent way the horse was forwarded to Jason Deamer with the horse having his hoof on the till.
A big Congratulations to Jason Deamer who has inherited a horse and bought him up to speed to win this event.
Thanks also to team member Ash Morgan for yet another top ride wearing our silks and.
