Arrowfield Stud revealed that it is “all too easy to take for granted” the continuing success of their Champion Sire SNITZEL – as the new boys always holds a compelling appeal and marketing imperatives sharpen the bias.

Eventually, a stallion that consistently posts outstanding statistics, compiles major progeny performances, and achieves exceptional sale-ring results, earns a fresh level of respect.

That’s certainly happening now for 4-time Champion Sire Snitzel, after a season of 18 stakes winners headed by his second Golden Slipper winner Shinzo, his fourth 2YO Sires’ title (with a new record earnings total of just over $5 million), a $518,000 yearling sale average and ten (10) $1 million+ yearlings.

On top of all that, Snitzel now has 10 stakes-siring sons including Invader & Champion 2nd Season Sire Russian Revolution, who both sired Group 1 winners in 2022/23.

His major advancement in 2022/23 was his rise up the Broodmare Sires Premiership.

His daughters propelled him into a Top 10 spot on the Australian Broodmare Sires’ list and he achieved the HIGHEST W/R% Strike Rate for the Top Broodmare Sires who had 100+ Runners.

Snitzel as a Broodmare Sire, achieved 191 winners of 302 race wins, inc 5 stakes winners at 53.5% and Earnings $13,903,607.

For most stallions, any one of these achievements would be a major career highlight. For Snitzel, they are business as usual, and that makes him and his progeny very, very special indeed.

To be fair, Dundeel gave an early alert of his ability to transmit a more precocious version of his own superior class with his second-crop colts Castelvecchio (Champagne S. G1 & Inglis Millennium RL) and Yourdeel (dual Group 1 winner and Champion New Zealand 2YO).

Arrowfield highlighted in 2021 and again in 2022 that, "the big lift in both the numbers and quality of Dundeel’s 2020 and 2021 crops, would turbo-charge the next stage of his career."

But even Team Arrowfield was surprised by his sixteen (16) 2YO winners last season, headed by out-of-the-box colt dual Gr1 winner Militarize, who won the Inglis Sires’ G1 and Champagne S. G1, and also 2YO Group 1 performers Miracle Of Love, Tannhauser & Townsend.

That earned Dundeel 5th position on the 2YO Sires’ Premiership and helped him into 6th place on the overall General Sires’ list.

Add in his eight (8) stakes winners for the year including South Australian Derby G1 winner Dunkel, Group 2-winning mares Hope In Your Heart & Aquacade, Group 3 winner & Caulfield Guineas G1 runner-up Elliptical and three other stakes winners from 1200m to 2400m, and it’s clear that Dundeel has what it takes to become a Champion sire.

The progeny of High Chaparral's Champion son Dundeel won 215 races (8 stakes winners of 16 stakes races) and $13.4 million prizemoney in Australia last season.

We follow trends closely because in our business, we live in a world of horse husbandry and statistical data.

So we were engrossed in the pedigree page, in particular the genetic cross that produced this filly.

When we spied a filly at the Magic Millions in 2023, she was immature and underdone for a January yearling sale, and that was always going to cost her commercial appeal in the salering.

However, she had excellent conformation structure and genetically, the filly was as good as it gets as an A+++ Rating Score.

When our veterinarian Dr Tim Roberts rated her an 8+ physical score, the highest rating he gives any yearling at any sale, and he advised us it had a Grade 1 (perfect) endoscopic evaluation and she was 100% clean on X-Rays, the planets had aligned.

We had valued the yearling at $120,000 + one bid ($130,000) being twice the $60,000 + GST Conception Year 2020 Service Fee.

We found out in advance the reserve was set at $80,000 so we made sure we landed on that price, and we weren’t countered.

To secure this fantastic individual for $80,000 + GST was a 33.33% ($40,000) discount to her market valuation.

Then the boom happened over the next few months.

Snitzel zoomed up the Broodmare Sire’s Premiership and Dundeel was a star with his amazing run of 2yo’s and stakes winners.

Add in the fact she is in the care of Australia’s Number 1 Stable in 2022/23 CIARON MAHER Racing (Ciaron Maher & David Eustace).

From 442 less runners than their closest peer, CIARON MAHER Racing Stable trained 58.5 more winners!

Now, the filly who was immature in January has gone through a massive growth spurt and is now at 15.3 hands and has strengthened up beautifully.

So, we look at the facts:

Snitzel claimed his 4th 2yo sires premiership last season and Dundeel had 16 2yo winners, and our filly has an early 7th September foaling date, so there is every expectation that our Magic Millions and BOBS eligible filly should be aimed at the 2yo races.
