SONORA Sizzles to Scintillating Sandown WIN
SONORA Sizzles to Scintillating Sandown WIN

The Dynamic Syndications / Ciaron Maher Racing Team
continued to
churn out the Metropolitan Winners
, and on Wednesday at
Sandown Lakeside,
promising
4yo mare SONORA (by SO YOU THINK ex SPURS AND SASHES)
lived up to her
$2.25 favourite
tag with a
determined win under jet pilot
Jamie Kah
.
SONORA won Race 6 the Ladbrokes VO ROGUE Handicap, Benchmark 64 over 1400m.
Carrying 58.5kgs in a time of 1:25.26 SONORA defeated RUGGIERO (59.0kgs) by 0.4 length with MAUI (60.5kgs) in third place.
Our mare was turned out in brilliant order by the hottest stable in Australia, matched to a pearl of a ride by boom jockey Jamie Kah, this enabled SONORA to show her true talent with this well-deserved city victory.
The plan was to lead unless something went at a stupid, suicidal pace and if that occurred, let them go and we would take a sit.
From the time the gates crashed back until the camera flashed, despite getting into a couple of awkward positions through the race, the race was always in
Jamie and SONORA’s keeping
.
Jumping away cleanly as the gates flung back, Jamie asked
SONORA
to travel forward, and our mare responded. However, after 100m an apprentice on a
“longshot”
dashed to the front going far too quickly which gave us a bunny to follow. Then a second apprentice
“took-off”
to give chase, from the 1200m which was ideal as it set a genuine tempo. Jamie tucked into the slip stream of the leaders on the fence and then, the rider of the second favourite Daniel Moor aboard SUNFALL thought he would move up to eyeball our mare and place her in a pocket. However, it’s a long run home at Sandown so Jamie waited patiently until the start of the swing into the home straight.
Jamie pushed out one off the fence, forcing Daniel Moor to travel 3 deep without cover.
As the field balanced for the run home, the two leaders were yielding, coming back into the running room of
SONORA.
Daniel Moor had our mare placed in a pocket behind tiring horses, so he pushed the go button carving out a two-length break on
SONORA
at the 350m.
Jamie waited and then at the 250m, angled out 4-deep to the running line to the outside of SUNFALL and quickly gave chase. In the space of 50m
SONORA
had reeled in the leader and gave SUNFALL a cold as she zipped past it.
She was in no danger and Jamie was allowed the comfort of a hands and heels ride to the flashpoint.
However, runner-up RUGGIERO gave chase solidly and they pulled away from the pack, but
SONORA
was never tested by her rival.
DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS races SONORA in
50/50
