Sydney FC continued their perfect start to the season with a 3-2 win over Wellington Phoenix in Round 2 of the Hyundai A-League at Allianz Stadium on Sunday night.
A double for man of the match Bobô and a first Sydney FC goal for Michael Zullo were the highlights of a high quality game of brilliant attack and resolute defence from both sides.
The Sky Blue’s created a number of other chances against Wellington but just missed in converting them.
Sydney’s goals were all class.
The first was started by Milos Ninkovic who laid a perfect pass to the skipper Brosque, who then sent a superb pass to Bobo to ram home.
Just six minutes later Sydney had their second. Sky Blues left-back Michael Zullo complemented Bobo's brace with his first goal for Sydney FC as Adrian Mierzejewski chased the ball to the goal line and crossed back for Zullo to rocket into the corner.
Early in the second half, a Luke Wilkshire perfect cross saw Bobo steer home a headed goal for Sydney's third.
Wellingtons 2nd goal was a contentious decision with the view of a hand-ball missed by the official.
Sydney FC and Melbourne City are the two sides that have won both games to start the new season and sit on top of the table.
The big concern for supporters and Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold's was Polish international Adrian Mierzejewski pulling-up clutching his hamstring.
Sunday night's win may have come at a hefty price for the A-League champions, Adrian Mierzejewski in serious doubt for next weekend's Sydney Derby.
Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold: “I have to say I’m very proud of the boys for winning three games in one week. It’s not easy playing three games at this stage of the season, but I thought with the ball we were very good and it should have been three or four nil at half time and game over.
“Bobô is fantastic, two great finishes tonight, and he’s leading the front line very well. We’ve got a great home record, we have a lot of belief in this stadium and we believe we’re in top shape.
Mentally we’ll freshen up and get ready for next week.
Sydney FC now prepare for a massive Sydney Derby on Saturday against the Western Sydney Wanderers in front of an anticipated packed house.
Arnold concluded: “Derbies are always fantastic and our boys always perform well in the Derbies at Allianz.”
