Adam Watt from Dynamic Syndications spent a couple of days at GOOREE PARK in Mudgee this week, to cast his eyes over several of our magnificent yearlings that are back in work under the expert eye of Mack Griffiths who handles our pre-training and educational exercise programmes for our team of yearlings.
This early education process is
vital in the mental and physical development of young horses, all of whom have been
broken-in by Australia’s Leading Horseman and Olympic Silver and Bronze medallist SHANE ROSE from his property Bimbadeen Park.
Once Shane has completed his tasks, the horses are floated to
Gooree Park to spell on their magnificent pastures, in large paddocks to ensure they have room to roam and run.
The
next phase is for our yearlings to have a
few weeks off after their breaking-in stresses.
Once that spell is completed, it’s now that they undertake a
refresher course in
what they were taught by Shane Rose and then,
Mack and his team put them back under saddle and increase their workloads and tractability education.
After they
work of a morning, they are
turned out into the paddocks of a day to allow them to graze with the sun on their backs, and then, late in the afternoon, they are
brought into the stables for the night so they avoid the cooling temperatures, and we can also monitor their feeding and body language, to ensure each individual yearling is handling the process, and any that may be struggling because of immaturity can have a tailored education and exercise plan implemented. Also their diets are monitored, so they can be given the best start in life and when the time comes to head into the city to their respective trainers, all the hard work has been set into the foundations for each yearling.

Rain, Hail or Shine, at this early stage the process happens
6 days a week for a period of
four (4) weeks, so our babies get into a routine of what is expected in stable life.
The tranquillity of the magnificent
Gooree Park allows our yearlings to avoid early stress associated with the sausage factory of city stables, which helps to ensure they are not stressed and they are well educated when the time arrives to head to their trainer.
Once Mack has finished with his programmes, the yearlings are then given
another break for about four (4) weeks, and then, this
process of pre-training re-commences, and the process is
repeated.
The plan is to have all our babies have their breaking-in and then, two sets of pre-training at Gooree Park, before heading into their trainers.
On Tuesday 26/4, Adam was able to see all our horses that are spelling on the property, and then on Wednesday morning, he was able to watch our yearlings doing trackwork, monitoring them moving fluidly under saddle, and respond to the commands of their riders. They were able to work on their own, in pairs and in threes, continuing their learning curve.
Unfortunately, heavy rain arrived on the Tuesday evening, and the conditions were extremely damp under foot as the rain kept tumbling down, but the show goes on regardless and this is an important phase that yearlings learn to run in such conditions.

Despite the downpour, Adam was still able to capture video clips, whilst our
contracted photographer Amanda Wood was also at the property, capturing some splendid candid snaps of our horses through the gloom of rain and fog.
