Dynamic Syndications Owners enjoyed yet
another visit to the Winner’s Circle this week, this time it was on Wednesday afternoon being
Day 2 of the three-day
Warrnambool Carnival, when our
extremely talented 3yo Filly SENSATIONALISATION (Written Tycoon x Sheer Sensation by Commands) was
very impressive for inform training combination of
MICK PRICE & MICK KENT Jnr.
A clever ride by Damien Oliver and a
will-to-win from
SENSATIONALISATION combined to claim Race 9 on the programme, the
$50,000 IDETECT Bm 70 Hcp for 3yo’s over 1400m which had attracted a quality field of
14 runners.
A $100,000 purchase at the Inglis Classic Sale for Dynamic Syndications / Dean Watt Bloodstock (FBAA), SENSATIONALISATION took her career to: 8 Starts: 2 – 2 – 2 and $158,525 with the promise of better wins in the future for this talented filly.
The replay shows what an
awesome effort SENSATIONALISATION put in to be too good for her peers however the runner-up made
SENSATIONALISATION and
Damien Oliver work for the victory.
Presented in
excellent condition pre-race, our filly is known to be
a little feisty in her pre-race parades and behind the barriers but presented a lot more relaxed into this event.
This was not only a quality field where bookmakers had equal favourites priced at $5.00 (both unplaced) and
SENSATIONALISATION had opened at 20/1 in early betting to be backed into 8/1 before drifting again to start at the luxury price of 14/1, in a race where
we truly believed we had an excellent winning hope.
Our task was made
more difficult than it should have been because
we drew the carpark, being forced to jump from the outside barrier.
On a day where the rain affected track was favouring on pace horses and very few if any were making ground in the straight, we had originally hoped to settle worse than mid-field and get a trail before making a run in the straight. However, that was totally against the track bias so we agreed to change tactics if possible and we notified stewards that we would try to land in the leading division.
As soon as the barriers crashed back, and the field had travelled 50m, it was back to
Plan B, as it was proving a
charge of the light brigade upfront, where the leaders set up a cracking tempo.
Trapped out in
no man’s land, worse than mid field and 6 wide facing the breeze and covering extra ground,
Damien’s horsemanship and talent combined with his years of experience, and he took hold of our filly and drifted back in the field to only having a couple behind him passing the 800m.
Damien identified that the
Ciaron Maher trained SIR DAVY was travelling well but trapped three-deep, so Damien was able to angle across to get onto the back of that runner.
Approaching the 400m on the point of the turn, Damien angled out and when asked for an effort quickly responded whilst SIR DAVY made its move at the same time. As the field balanced for the run to the post,
SIR DAVY gave a kick but SENSATIONALISATION was in for the fight and moved up at the 250m to gain the lead with a furlong to go.
However, SIR DAVY fought back and it became a two-horse war the final 150m as
SENSATIONALISATION under the vigour of Damien refused to surrender, digging deep to hold out the runner-up as they spreadeagled the field behind.
SENSATIONALISATION always looked the winner but SIR DAVY ridden by John Allen made her work.
The fact here was that
class rose to the top.
SENSATIONALISATION had been competing in much stronger grade races in Saturday Class metropolitan races without luck, for multiple city placings and the formlines out of those races were strong.
We had wanted to race her at Caulfield the previous Saturday but again, we had come up with the widest barrier and we chose to wait for this event, only to encounter the same problem.
We had to run here not because we wanted to after barrier draw, but we needed the foundation fitness for her next assignment.
It takes a good filly to win from these wide draws and
SENSATIONALISATION is exactly that.
What was very impressive was that
SIR DAVY being a male, under set weights would give us 2.0kgs however in this Benchmark 70 event, both our filly and the runner-up carried the same weight at 56.0kgs. For a female to beat a male under such circumstances, and at level weights was a tremendous effort.
This event was also a
Super VOBIS race and as a
VOBIS eligible filly, SENSATIONALISATION picked up
$27,500 winners cheque plus an additional $8,400 Bonus making the total win worth $35,900.
Team Dynamic and our co-trainers “Mick Squared” (Mick Price and Mick Kent Jnr) have always had an opinion this filly is
stakes class however she has been her own worse enemy with temperament and over thinking, which has certainly cost her a couple of races to date.
However, this preparation we have always had our focus on being ready third-up for the Inglis Scone Guineas, a 3yo Restricted Listed race to be run at Rosehill Saturday 15 May for graduates of the Inglis Sales that paid up for the race series, which we did with SENSATIONALISATION.
Her first two starts back this preparation were planned to have her ready for this
$300,000 event.
First-up on the 14th April, SENSATIONALISATION carried the grandstand with 61.5kgs over 1300m against the boys and she still had fitness improvement to come.
Now s
econd up on the 5th May, she
won impressively at 1400m at
Warrnambool. This has topped her off nicely for her third up assignment.
It’s important to note that, under the
set-weights conditions of the upcoming race,
colts and geldings carry 56.5kgs and fillies carry 54.5kgs.
SENSATIONALISATION will only carry 54.5kgs dropping a further 1.5kgs from this tough win at Warrnambool.
In fact, in her 8 starts to date, the lowest weight she carried was 56.0kgs which she has done on three occasions, recording both her wins and when she finished third in the Gold Ingot at Caulfield. Otherwise, she’s been forced to carry 61.5kgs, 61.0kgs (twice), 58.5kgs and 58.0kgs.
So at next Saturday’s Scone meeting being conducted at Rosehill,
SENSATIONALISATION drops to a postage stamp in comparison to what she has been carrying.
Robbie Dolan will ride her at Rosehill.
On a day where most riders are interstate for the Queensland Carnival or in South Australia for their carnival, our team are delighted to have secured the services of Robbie Dolan to guide our filly in the
Inglis Scone Guineas.
