Dynamic Syndications are looking to add to our resume a Second VILLIERS Success, as UK Import MUSHAIREB (GB) who is fit well and ready to give it his all, lines up in the Gr2 Villiers 1600m at Randwick on Saturday.
The
Richard and Michael “Freedman Brothers” trained MUSHAIREB (GB) is under the guidance of
Richard Freedman along with his son Will, from the team’s
Rosehill Stables.
Mushaireb winning at Warwick Farm
MUSHAIREB (GB) despite being a little
“quirky” at times, has always shown plenty of ability as can be seen through his formlines.

MUSHAIREB (GB) after we purchased him in the UK
A 60,000 Guineas purchase by Dynamic Syndications from Tattersalls Horses-In-Training Sale, MUSHAIREB (GB) has a race record of 12 starts: 3 Wins, 3 Seconds, 2 Thirds, 2 Fourths & $119,577 in earnings.
In Australia, he has raced 7 times: 1 Win, 3 Seconds, 1 Third and 1 Fourth. All have been metro races and after his first two starts as mid-week assignments, his past 5 are genuine Saturday class events.
Only twice in a dozen starts has he missed out and both those times came on rain affected surfaces including a Heavy 8 track at Randwick, which he certainly didn’t enjoy, yet was still only 3 lengths off the winner Quakerjack.
MUSHAIREB (GB) comes into this race in grand-form, third-up and now rock-hard fit for the first time this preparation.
MUSHAIREB & Brenton Avdulla
He resumed from a spell at Rosehill on 28 September, when he still wasn’t right in the coat and was open to significant improvement. He stormed home from back in the ruck to run Rainer to 0.5 length over 1400m.
Since then, Rainer has raced another 4 occasions, including a last start winner in the Gr3 Festival Stakes when afforded a postage stamp of 53.0kgs.
Pre-race Parade
Mushaireb deliberately has only had one more start since, at the Saturday Newcastle stand-alone Hunter Stakes meeting on 16 September, where he was runner-up again, this time by 1.89 lengths when carrying 60.0kgs over 1500m. That day Strome with 58.0kgs ran him down. From that event, the formline has stood up as last Saturday Strome appeared a certainty beaten when he had no luck carrying 58.0kgs to be beaten 0.2 length to Toryjoy.
Rainer and Strome have both displayed good formlines leading into the Villiers however this will now be Rainer’s fifth race since they crossed paths when
Mushaireb (GB) resumed and Strome will need to be able to back-up in 7 days off a tough run.
MUSHAIREB (GB) will think it’s Christmas a fortnight early, with what to him, will feel like a featherweight in his saddle.
In his 7 starts in Australia, he has been asked to lump 60.0kgs twice, 59.5kgs three times, 57.0kgs once and 55.0kgs once when resuming this preparation, where on ratings he put in his best career performance behind Rainer. Here under the Quality Handicap conditions, he drops down to only receive 53.0kgs but will most likely carry 0.5kgs over for
Glyn Schofield.
Glyn knows Mushaireb (GB), having ridden him twice for an excellent 0.6 length 4th on the Kensington track, giving 3.0kgs weight to the winner and runner-up whilst the 3rd placed Live and Free finished just a head in front of him.
Then Glyn rode
MUSHAIREB (GB) at Rosehill over 1800m when 3rd to So You Win however we believe the trip found him out that day and we have lowered our distance range this preparation back to a mile.
With competitive formlines through Rainer, Strome and Live and Free to determine weights and measures and the fact
MUSHAIREB (GB) is arriving into the race 3rd up, where his races have been deliberately spaced because this appears the process to get our horse to perform at his best.
Add-in what appears the ideal distance, with a rider who knows the horse’s capabilities and then, add-in the featherweight for the first time in his race career, we have every reason to believe
MUSHAIREB (GB) finds a nice race to target.
Those who have been following the success we have had from the UK Horses-In-Training sale with Richard Freedman and who saw the video clip we posted online after we had purchased RECONDITE (IRE) at Tattersalls on the 28th October, they would remember we spoke about Mushaireb (GB) then being aimed at the Villiers. So, this race is certainly not been a pipedream.
Dean and Adam Watt - Tattersalls interview from Dynamic Syndications on Vimeo.
We may not be at this class level as the Benchmark ratings suggest but one thing is for sure, and that is we head into this event polished, primed and positive
MUSHAIREB (GB) will be capable of putting in his best performance to date in Australia.
If that is enough to see him finishing at the pointy end, we would be delighted. If it turns out to be a bridge too far, we can lower our sights.
Whilst we appreciate, he could be aimed at easier assignments, the Villiers has been our long-term goal and we meticulously planned how to get him here since early May.
The Freedman team have done the job training him to present perfectly, so it’s now up to
“Mushie and Glyn” to let us see the real him on the racetrack.
VILLIERS History
Dynamic Syndications are hopeful to add a
“traditional” Villiers to our resume on Saturday.
Dynamic Syndications HONOR IN WAR (USA) outside wins the Villiers
Dynamic Syndications has won the Villiers once in 2008 with
Honor In War (USA) (Hugh Bowman) our First Overseas Horses-In-Training Import when the race was held over 1400m in early January 2008, after equine influenza had halted Sydney racing.
Honor In War (USA) had to win the race on protest after Takeover Target was first across the line by an inch in front of
Honor In War (USA) but Jay Ford was found to have interfered over the final 150m.
The Villiers Stakes is a Group 2 race run under Handicap conditions for the milers at Randwick conducted by the Australian Turf Club.
The Villiers Stakes is run over 1600m. It was first run in 1892 and was won by Two Up.
Early running’s of the Villiers Stakes were at 1200m but all bar one running since 1901 was over the mile.
The Villiers Stakes was a Principal race to 1979 then was Group 3 before becoming a Group 2 in 1986.
The race was run at Warwick Farm in 2001, 2011 and 2012.
Horses often run well in the Doncaster after winning the Villiers as they are exempt from the ballot.
Sense Of Occasion in 2016 would go on to place in the Doncaster first up and then behind Winx in the Queen Elizabeth before getting his Group 1 in the Doomben Cup.
Ike's Dream held the famous Randwick mile track record until beaten recently in 2018. She set it in winning the 2004 Villiers by running 1:33.13.
In 2005 Aqua D'Amore won the Villiers over the mile and then nine days later took out the Summer Cup over 2400m.
The Villiers Stakes is worth $250,000 in 2019.
The 2018 Villiers Stakes was won by Sky Boy from Aloisia and My Nordic Hero.
