This is the money year. The crop that identifies which stallion can go one to be a leading Australian Sire and which ones fall away to only be bread and butter horses. This is the area where oldest are 4yo’s and the second crop 3yo’s make their mark and can deliver exceptional rewards for owners who have the progeny of the leading third crop sires.

Sires - 1600m to 2000m by Winners TOP 10

We find this table one of the most interesting across all tables. That’s because the genetics of certain sires kicks in at this distance range. It highlights sires whose progeny perform well at this trip and have a larger statistical advantage to earn prizemoney as field sizes fall away. This is one of the most commercially successful ranges to buy into for ROI for Owners. We like to look at the Winners here more than the Earnings as one feature win can skewer statistics. In addition, once the distances get to 2000m + then the international imports affect this data. So the 1600m – 2000m gives us guidance.

SHALAA x DARBY’S BID 2YO Colt (with Gerry Harvey): SHALAA is currently in Second spot and rapidly closing in on leader Capitalist on the Third Season Sires List, whilst Darby’s Bid is a daughter of REDOUTE’S CHOICE a champion Broodmare sire and currently in Second spot this season to Encosta de Lago.

DUNDEEL x SPORTS CHIC 2YO Filly. DUNDEEL is the Leading Sire of Winners from 1600m to 2000m which we consider the sweet spot for owners to go racing. SPORTS CHIC is a daughter of REDOUTE’S CHOICE, a champion Broodmare sire and currently in Second spot this season to Encosta de Lago.

ASTERN x BETTER LIFE 2YO Colt. ASTERN is in a very competitive Fourth position on the Third Crop Sires list and he’s a self-made man off a low $11,000 Service Fee causing less numbers and overall lesser quality mares to his high-priced peers. His current Spring 3yo’s are leading the way such as AFT CABIN and GOLDEN MILE and he could easily jump to the lead in this premiership if a couple of results go his way in the coming weeks.

AMERICAN PHAROAH x WAR HEROINE 2YO Colt: AMERICAN PHAROAH is in fifth spot on the Third Crop Sires by Earnings, 5 wins behind SHALAA who has had 19 more runners, whilst he has 2 more winners than ASTERN. AMERICAN PHAROAH is tracking closely with “spruik” sire MAURICE as both have had 9 winners from a similar number of runners. Whilst WAR HEROINE is a dual stakes winning daughter of champion sire LONHRO, who is currently in sixth position on the Broodmare Sires List.
