NO CAVIAR SUITS ATOMIC FORCE
DYNAMIC Syndications' Dean Watt hopes the decision to skip Autumn will pay dividends for Atomic Force in a Spring Carnival which may lack a leader in sprinting ranks.
Atomic Force, which won two groups ones including the Railway Stakes on New Year's Day in New Zealand, showed he has enjoyed his six-month break from the track by winning a barrier trial at Randwick yesterday.
Atomic Force returns to scale following his Gr1 Railway win in NZ.
''We could have pressed on with him in the autumn but he had a few little niggles and we decided that he had been good to us, so we would be good to him,'' Watt said.
''He has come back great and is actually in front of where we thought he would be. Nash [Rawiller] got off him this morning and was very happy with how he felt.''
Part of Watt's decision was made with the thought ''modern greats'' Black Caviar and Hay List may not be around in the spring.
''There was always that possibility and other than [Atomic Force] there is not that many proven group one sprinters around,'' Watt said.
''I have a great respect for Buffering, who has chased those two great horses home in the autumn, and you have to be impressed by Sea Siren in Brisbane in the winter but other than them it drops away pretty quick.''
Black Caviar still holds the key to the spring if she returns. Watt admits Atomic Force is not in her class and wouldn't want to be the one that beat her. So the decision on her future is being keenly watched by Watt and a number of owners around the country.
''If you were to be the one that beat her it would be like be killing Bambi,'' he said. ''I have been there before when Honor In War beat Takeover Target, they booed me.''
"Tommy" won't have Hay List, Buffering or Black Caviar to deal with this Spring
Atomic Force will campaign exclusively in Melbourne, starting at either Moonee Valley or Caulfield at the end of next month. His main focus will be the Manikato Stakes and Patinack Classic. ''Like everyone else'' Watt said. ''There are lot of people who would fancy their chances if there is no Black Caviar.''
