On Tuesday 15 April at the Kembla Grange race meeting, Dynamic Syndications 3yo gelding TACT (The Autumn Sun x Demand Attention) was facing the starter at his sixth career start and looking to break his maiden for his loyal owners and co-training father and son duo of Richard and Will Freedman at Rosehill.

TACT was engaged in Race 1, the TIME TO REIGN @ KINGSTAR FARM Maiden Handicap (1400m).
Originally to be ridden by Chad Schofield, the jockey was unable to make the races due to illness, so connections opted for experienced hoop Kerrin McEvoy to take control.
A race we believed we could win on paper, the speed map had us settling back in the ruck, off the pace and the leader was the favourite Shangri La Impact (NZ) who was going to the sport for the first time.
We expected to be back and the favourite may be suspect first up at the trip, so would sit and steer but that's not the way the race panned out.
Kerrin came away from the barriers and our horse with blinkers on worked forward. After the first furlong, anticipating Adam Hyeronimus on the favourite to cross to the fence and take control at a slow tempo, the favourite didn't work forward. With the slow running early tempo, Kerrin had TACT under a stranglehold and simply worked across to sit on the fence. Unexpectedly Shangri La Impact just sat at our girth and the leaders got away with soft sectionals to turn the race into a sit and sprint.
Rounding the home turn the leaders kicked away and passing the 300m the runner-up Shangri La Impact worked-up to eyeball TACT.
Kerrin pushed the go button and TACT responded and put a long neck margin back on his rival as the pair passed the 200m.

However at the 100m marker TACT was now running on fumes. He is a horse bred to get further and work home. Sit and sprints over short courses, especially second-up was a task.
Showing great character and a tenacity to win, TACT dug deep. Shangri La Impact was also in for the fight and kept coming, stride by stride narrowing the margin.

TACT would not be worried out of the win and kept digging and whilst the margin got to just 0.1 as the camera flashed, TACT was never headed prior to the photo being taken or after the post.

JOB DONE!

Having anticpated being back in the field early, it proved a tremendous ride, by Kerrin McEvoy, judging tempo to a perfection which allowed TACT to deliver his best and stave off the heavily supported favourite, with two lengths back to third.

TACT looked a treat in the parade ring, turned out perfectly by Richard and Will Freedman, and our Dynamic galloper didn’t let down his owners and connections. He has supplied his team with the first of what is anticipated many photos for the wall.
