TAPICONIC (USA) is a 4yo gelding by TAPIT (USA) ex TOUCH LOVE (USA)
This lightly raced gelding is by a Gr1 Winning CHAMPION SIRE in the USA & CANADA on 3 Occasions
He is from a Dam that won 3 races including a Gr2 and Listed Race.
Dynamic Syndications chose to purchase TAPICONIC when as a highly promising 3yo Colt, he was going through the Magic Millions tried horse sale on the Gold Coast in June.
We truly believed he could certainly be improved with both a change of stable environment and to change in his status to a gelding.
TAPICONIC (USA)
We offered TAPICONIC to our owners to race with Dynamic Syndications in 5% Shares at $5,875 inc GST and included all costs to 30 June & Insurance to 1/11 and he sold out in a matter of hours.
His RACE SUMMARY at the time read: 3 Starts: 0-1-1-1
His most recent start at that time was on the 8 May when placed 3rd at Canterbury.
He was being sold by his USA based breeder / owner Mr Antony Beck. Mr Beck is the Owner of the prestigious GAINSWAY FARM in Kentucky.
Gainsway bred the colt in the USA to Southern Hemisphere time and sent him to Australia as a foal.
At the end of the 3yo season, the colt was surplus to their needs and was offered for unreserved sale at the 2019 MAGIC MILLIONS National Racehorse Sale. Offered as Lot 2620, Dynamic Syndications purchased the colt for $90,000 in the sale-ring, which we considered a bargain price and we immediately changed trainers putting him into the care and needed attention of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace at Warwick Farm.
CIARON and his co-trainer DAVID EUSTACE also have stables at Mornington, Ballarat and Caulfield and he will follow the money trail in both states.
Before heading into training, we believed the horse despite having had only 3 starts, looked in a desperate need of a spell, so we sent him straight to the paddock and as soon as he arrived there, we arranged to have him gelded.
TAPICONIC had bruised feet that needed care and attention, so with the gelding and the spell allowing the hooves to grow down, the break did him the world of good.
Then Ciaron Maher suggested we consider sending him to Melbourne to be initially trained, where he could be trained off the beach bare footed, instead of attacking his feet with unnecessary farrier work.
We followed Ciaron’s advise and sent him down the highway and it was the potential making of Tapiconic.
Here he is leading his mates in a water walk when a pod of dolphins joined him!
He came to hand well and then had two unofficial barrier trails where he excelled.
Then we returned him to Warwick Farm only on the Thursday before his first up race for his new Dynamic Ownership Team.
He always showed he was a city class horse but now as a 4yo and a gelding, he had strengthened and his bruised feet were no longer any issue.
Unfortunately, the way the racing calendar is at this time of year, it was impossible to find a mid-week city maiden that suited. So, with none available we decided to give him and the owners a confidence building result by taking him up the line to Cessnock on Monday 28th October to compete in an 1150m Colts and Geldings Set Weights Maiden.
We have always believed he could measure up into a higher-level, off-season metro class racehorse over 1600m and further, as that’s how he is bred and looks and that’s where the TAPIT breed excel, and on his trackwork, we were convinced that despite resuming over 1150m being well short of his right distance, only bad luck would stop him winning.
So did the punters as TAPICONIC opened at $1.35 into $1.28 before starting at $1.30 and winning like a $1.30 pop should.
TAPICONIC was turned out in brilliant condition by the stable and was ridden to perfection by jet pilot Christen Reith.
The plan was to let him jump away and not be bustled but to get into a rhythm towards the speed.
As the gates crashed back in the New Zealand Bloodstock C,G&E Maiden Plate, the race panned out well, as the second favourite rolled to the front and an outsider eye-balled the leader, that gave Tapiconic the ideal spot on the fence on the back of the leaders.
At the 800m Tapiconic wanted to get going as the speed dropped out but Christian took hold and the big horse settled beautifully just like a true miler.
Approaching the home turn, Christian angled the horse off the fence to the outside of the leaders and turned for home spotting those leaders a length.
Then in a blink of an eye Tapiconic gave the leaders windburn, as he dashed past under hands and heels, to spreadeagled the field over some 14 lengths.
With the job done, Christian was able to allow Tapiconic to cruise to the post without being tested to record a widening 1.62 length win with a further 1.25 lengths back to third.
It was as easy as shelling peas but despite the maiden event being run at Cessnock, he is a serious horse in the making and the dominance of the win has given the horse an effortless confidence building result and tightened his fitness, as we head for better races later in the year.
Christian reported that the the horse was comfortable throughout but would be better suited heading up in trip next start to a 1300m or 1400m where the horse won't be bustled and it allows him time to settle. He said he feels the horse will be even more dominant then.
We won’t be tempted to rush him, as he is still very green and will learn a lot under the Ciaron Maher training environment.
He is certainly a horse for his Owners to enjoy and Dynamic Syndications followers to black-book as he progresses through the grades in coming weeks.

ABOVE: Here is the replay of the race win by TAPICONIC
First job is now ticked off as he is a winner with his report card showing 4 sts: 1-1-1-1 and by going up the line, he is only a Benchmark 60 rated horse, so the options remain plentiful at this point.
Onwards and Upwards !
