A change in business philosophy from the AQUIS Management Team to
“now only race COLTS” has resulted in a
dispersal of their fillies,
mares and geldings that they race either 100% or in equity shares.
On
Day 1 of the
2021 Magic Millions Broodmare Sales there were over 200 racetrack fillies and mares were being offered in the catalogue for sale.
Team Dynamic offered and sold seven (7) mares (2 x 4yo’s and 5 x 5yo’s) where we grossed $534,500 for the various Ownership teams.
We also
had our eye on several race fillies being offered for sale that were lightly raced and had racing upside but importantly still had their easy grade races in them.
AQUIS were selling their fillies under the draft of
Blue Sky Premium Consignment (As Agent) run by
Julian Blaxland and trainer Kasy Fogden.
Kasy trains the AQUIS Horses in Queensland and Annabel Neasham trains the AQUIS Horses in Sydney.
Among the
AQUIS draft there were
nine (9) 2yo Race Fillies being offered as part of the dispersal and they were being offered for
unreserved sale.
We did our
due diligence investigations and discovered
six had displayed the
desired ability to be carrying our silks in races.
After full vetting, Dr Roberts had concluded that only
4 lots were passed and were
acceptable for us to be purchasing.
We purchased 2 of these lots whilst the other 2 lots were over our ceiling price expectations and we dropped out of the battle for those.
The four we identified, two were trained by Kacy and two were trained by Annabel.
We spoke with the stables and both ladies were
keen to keep training them if we were to buy them, as they believed they had
significant upside.
As it turned out we
purchased two lots, one trained by each lady.
Both horses we believe as do the trainers, to be of
Sydney Class.
Therefore, they will both be returned to Sydney to push on with their racing careers.
ANNABEL NEESHAM will
continue to train the filly we purchased that had been in her stable.
This represents the first Dynamic Syndications horse in the stable of what we trust will be a many future opportunities in a long and very successful association with the instantly successful and inform Warwick Farm stable.
Whilst disappointingly for Kacy, we have decided the filly
NOTIONS should be heading to
Rosehill to be trained by our
“go to” trainer
RICHARD FREEDMAN to take advantage of the
BOBS Bonus opportunities.
The first of Dynamic Syndications purchases was:
LOT 538 NOTIONS (2yo f Press Statement x She’s Sirius by Galileo).
SOLD: $90,000 + GST = $99,000 – 1 START
Trained by Kacy Fodgen, the filly had a
significant pedigree boost over the past few weeks when her 3yo half-sister
SIRILEO MISS (Pride Of Dubai) was placed 3rd by 0.6 length in the
Gr3 1800m Auria S., before a last start
5th by 1.2 length in the Gr1 South Australian Oaks.
SIRILEO MISS has a career of 6 sts: 2-2-1 and $158,400.
NOTIONS is also a
half-sister to Stakes Placed
SOPHIA’S CHOICE.
SHE’S SIRIUS had
6 foals to race –
6 winners and now
NOTIONS who raced two days earlier.
NOTIONS has had 2 trials and 1 race start –this preparation.
She won both trials very impressively and went to the races on Sunday 23 May for the first time over an unsuitable 1000m.
Unfortunately, she bombed the start from barrier 1, got shuffled back to the rear, was checked at the 500m when trying to make ground along the fence, losing momentum and field position and only started to get hot the last 100m where she worked to the line with flashing lights, showing she was crying out for 1400m – 1600m which is exactly how she is bred.
When an endoscope was done on the filly on Monday morning after the race and prior to the sale, the filly had an
excellent Grade 1 airway however it is noted that she had significant amount of muck in her throat which highlights she has an infection which needs antibiotic treatment.
For
NOTIONS to race the way it did with the muck in her throat, the run was super and the future is very bright.
The filly is also
BOBS eligible so it makes sense to race a 2yo filly like this in Sydney where she can earn the additional
BOBS Bonuses as well.
We expect that
NOTATIONS will commence her racing career for
Dynamic Syndications in approximately
5-6 weeks once
Richard Freedman has the opportunity to see how she goes under saddle and we have given her a few easy days to settle into the Rosehill lifestyle and get over her trip.
Our second purchase was the AQUIS Owned Annabel Neesham trained:
LOT 628 AFRICAN DAISY (2yo f American Pharoah x Ciguaraya by Latent Heat).
SOLD: $50,000 + GST = $55,000 - UNRACED
Annabel was
very keen to secure the filly back into her care. The
unraced daughter of super sire American Pharoah is out of a
multiple USA Stakes Winner.
Unknown to many in Australia, this is a
high-quality USA family and importantly, she is bred on a super cross of
A+ 862% with
2 stakes winners bred on the cross to date.
This filly is bred to be a
3yo / 4yo mile + candidate and has the conformation to match the pedigree.
According to Annabel she
is confident the filly is city class and was never going to be a 2yo however she put the horse through an education preparation where she was impressed with how the filly progressed.
Her Dam has had two foals to race – 1 Winner and 1 Placed.
The filly had a 900m trial at the end of February which was the first day back for
injured jockey Andrew Adkins and you can see the way the filly was ridden in the trial Andrew knocked up in fitness more than the horse. She was sent out for just an easy look around and Andrew rode accordingly.
This filly is a
super style of individual however there is no point rushing her back into work because the races simply are not available over the Winter for a horse bred like this.
She is six months away from being ready so we intend to give her about
6 weeks in the paddock before returning her to pre-training and then into full training to get ready for the back of the Spring Carnival when the distances are more plentiful for a filly bred this way.
She has the looks, she has the commercial pedigree, she has the genetics and one of the hottest stables in Australia at present was as keen as mustard to get her back into her care.
At these
price points, both
NOTIONS and AFRICAN DAISY to continue racing were
great value and offer our
DYNAMIC OWNERS super
opportunities to race quality fillies. The way demand is for fillies off the track, when their race careers conclude their residual value in the sale ring will be considerable based upon the
Day 1 Results we achieved in the
7 mares we sold.
The
art of the business is to know when to
trade into and trade out of horses and
preserving capital as best as possible and hopefully,
improving their residual values by
winning races and banking prizemoney along the way.
Both fillies are sound and right, fully endorsed and have been offered for sale only because a change in business philosophy by the company that races these fillies.
Their model is
purely stallion creation therefore fillies - mares and geldings don’t fit into their portfolio.
We will be promoting both fillies to our existing owners in the near future once
administration details are completed and the documents are approved by Racing NSW.
However, we would
anticipate that both horses could be fully reserved prior to being publicly offered on our website.
In the interim, if you would like to know more simply
