Caravaggio became the
FIRST Northern Hemisphere Freshman SIRE to record a
WINNER when
TENEBRISM (2f Caravaggio x Immortal Verse, by Pivotal) bolted home at Naas on Sunday.
CARAVAGGIO (USA) - The first new season sire to produce a winner in the Northern Hemisphere
A Brilliant dual Group 1 winning sprinter himself,
Caravaggio (USA) during his racing days was rightly referred to as the
“Ballydoyle Bullet.”
CARIVAGGIO (USA) - The "BALLYDOYLE BULLET" in flight
He shuttled to Coolmore Australia for only the one season and that crop are now yearlings being offered at our sales this year.
Considered
“too valuable” to keep shuttling, Caravaggio was transferred by the breeding powerhouse from their Ireland home to their US operation
Ashford Farm to better access the US mare bloodlines.
On Sunday his first runner Tenebrism followed in her sire’s footsteps by winning over five furlongs on debut.
TENEBRISM runs away from her peers to win easily
Tenebrism trained by Aidan O’Brien, was named by the Thoroughbred Daily News as their
“Rising Star” with this performance.
The filly raced near the tail of the field on the turf under jockey Seamie Heffernan, just sitting back and waiting to be asked to
“go”. At the two furlongs marker, Heffernan angled her to the widest position on the track and
pushed the button.
Once she had this clear running room,
Tenebrism showed a “fantastic turn of foot” and quickly powered to the front.
The jockey put the whip away with still over a furlong to run, as they pulled away to win the five-furlong (1006m) dash e
ased down by a widening 3¾ lengths, indicating she may be a Royal Ascot prospect.
“She was always very natural from day one and she’s able to quicken up very well, which is what the dad was able to do.” Heffernan told Irishracing.com.
“You would have to be very happy with her. It’s her first day away. She’s smart, and we can look at all those quick races for her.”
Bred and retained to race by
Coolmore and partners,
Tenebrism is the third winner from dual Group1 winning Pivotal mare Immortal Verse, who comes from the family of champion sire Last Tycoon.
Caravaggio has had 44 yearlings sell in Australasia this year at an average $84,170.
Now standing at Ashford in the USA, Caravaggio saw his first yearlings average $132,258 USD last year, led by a
¥105,000,000 (US$957,898) yearling at the JRHA Selected Yearlings Sale. In demand around the world, his other yearlings starred at all major yearling sales when bringing $400,000, $300,000, $250,000, etc.
Dynamic Syndications wanted to ensure we had the best son we could find at the Magic Millions by the “Ballydoyle Bullet” to aim at winning the Magic Millions 2yo race in 2022.
Our Colt - CARAVAGGIO x MALIBU ROAD
We believe he could be exactly what the Australian racing industry needs and when we found Lot 514, we made him our target and purchased the sire’s stunning son from the mare MALIBU ROAD - a daughter of Malibu Moon.
It’s these
Northern Hemisphere mares that blend so well with the super sire
SCAT DADDY and genetically, his son
CARAVAGGIO being
his fastest son, over noted broodmare sire
MALIBU MOON offers a fantastic speed cross, which is what we were deliberately aiming to secure.
It was a no brainer that the colt, bred and raised by Coolmore Stud, should go to the 2YO trainer extraordinaire’s GAI WATERHOUSE and ADRIAN BOTT.
GAI WATERHOUSE DEAN & FIONA WATT, ADRIAN BOTT
It was no surprise to our team, rather it was expected that
CARAVAGGIO would hit the ground running with his 2yo progeny up North, and to be the
FIRST new Sire to produce a WINNER is a feather in his cap, in what promises to be a vintage first crop of freshman sires in the Northern Hemisphere.
Then to produce a turn of foot the way
Tenebrism powered home, is a big result.
To think ….. this is the
ONLY CROP of the sire in the
Southern Hemisphere, it's exciting that we believe we purchased his
best-looking and genetically his best-bred son.
We invite you to join us as we aim for 2yo success next season with exciting colt.
