Darley shuttle stallion Too Darn Hot (GB) delivered his first Group 1 winner with his awesome filly Fallen Angel taking out the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes (7f – 1400m) at The Curragh on Sunday.
Fallen Angel was the sire’s first winner for her sire from his 14 winners to date, when scoring on debut at Haydock back in May and she became his first stakes-winner when taking out the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes last month and now she’s also his first Gr1 winner.
Ridden by her regular partner Daniel Tudhope, she handled the deteriorating conditions to score a length and a half win with the race favourite Ylang Ylang, a 1.5million guineas purchase by Frankel failing to fire a shot.
The daughter of Too Darn Hot was always well-positioned behind the unbeaten market leader Ylang Ylang and as the former weakened quickly having raced keenly, Fallen Angel soon struck the front with a couple of furlongs to go.
Then Vespertilio loomed up on the outside with a furlong to go but as these two battled it out, it was Fallen Angel who pulled out more inside the final furlong to score by a length and a quarter at the line.
Whilst Ornellaia dead-heated for third with Porta Fortuna.
Winning rider Danny Tudhope said: "I got inside the three pole, and she was running away with me, she had loads left in the tank. I saw Billy [Lee] coming on the outside and I kicked on then. She's a lovely big filly and a lovely filly.
"She'll probably be best when she steps up to a mile. She really does and I've been saying it all along [has 1000 Guineas written all over her].
“Fallen Angel jumped great and is a very straightforward ride. You can put her where you want in a race, she stays very well and I thought the last furlong would be her best furlong.
"She was very impressive. She deserves that and she’s just getting better and better all the time. She’s a beautiful big filly and she’s only going to improve.
"I’m absolutely delighted for the team, they work so hard and they deserve this.
“She has the Guineas written all over her." said Tudhope.
Fallen Angel has three wins and a second from four starts and was quickly cut from 6/1 into 7/4 for the Gr1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket by bookmakers Paddy Power and has been listed as early favourite for next year’s Newmarket 1,000 Guineas at 8-1.
Fallen Angel was bred by Steve Parkin’s Branton Court Stud and was retained to race. She is a half-sister to stakes-placed Divine Jewel from Group 2 winning Lawman mare Agnes Stewart and is the final foal of the mare.
“The mother was my favourite mare and we lost her to colic–that's her last foal and she is the spitting image of her, so emotional is an understatement,” he said.
“My daughter names all our horses and after the death of the dam, she called her Fallen Angel. To win the Moyglare Stakes is unbelievable–the greatest thrill I've had in my life I think.”
Fallen Angel is the first Group 1 winner among 14 winners including three (3) stakes-winning fillies for Too Darn Hot. The sire also has a Stakes Placed colt and another colt who is a stakes performer running fourth in a stakes race.
Too Darn Hot (GB) will have his first Australian runners this season.
A Champion 2YO Colt and 3YO Colt by Dubawi, Too Darn Hot has had his first Australian bred yearlings sell this year for up to $1million and will have his first runners this season in Australia.
Dynamic Syndications purchased two yearlings by the sire believing he has the genetics to be a success in the Southern Hemisphere and the stallion who was Champion 2YO and Champion 3YO in Europe. Importantly his speed carried out to a mile so this will be a big advantage here.
We purchased a Colt and a Filly and are delighted in what they have shown us to date.
The colt is fully syndicated and in the care of Mick Price and Mick Kent Jnr.
