Sent out a raging
$1.40 favourite,
Dynamic Syndications promising
3yo Filly TOO MUCH CLASS (Smart Missile x Skyline Blush) was having her second start for
Team Dynamic and our Loyal Ownership Team when she went around spending not much more effort than she would in a training gallop, when scoring in
Race 3, the MONGARLOWE GOURMET PLATE 1400m at Canberra on Sunday.
Our
Ciaron Maher Racing trained filly was sent to Orange at her first start for us and was the best of good things beaten when finishing a fast finishing second by a Head, coming from the tail of the field to rocket home and just miss over an unsuitably short 1280m.
Up in trip to 1400m in a Set Weights Maiden Plate, with a long run home on the Canberra circuit,
the race looked ideal.
We had also accepted in a 1500m event at Kembla on Saturday where we thought our horse would be extremely competitive, as well as this Canberra event but when we did our form, even though we knew the 1500m would suit her far better than the 1400m trip, we considered this Canberra race looked a far simpler way to break her maiden status at just her third race start.
Despite believing our filly will be far better at
1600m to 2000m in the near future, this race would eventually pan out as we had read it should on the speed map, however nothing in racing is guaranteed and racing is a sport where things can go against expectations.
This was the case prior to the jump.
The field was loaded in the barriers and ready to jump when our
$1.40 favourite tried to anticipate the start and became fractious, kicking out, and getting her leg caught up behind in the gates.
Panic stations for our Owners and punters alike, when the only horse wanted in the market, had to be removed from the barriers and trotted up for the veterinarian, to ensure she wasn’t lame after that incident and she would be able to race.
However, after a quick trot up and back, our filly was given the all clear to start, which was a huge relief for all connections.
As the gates flung back,
TOO MUCH CLASS flew the lids and bounced a head in front of the field before
jet pilot Blaike McDougall eased half a length, whilst two competitors pushed forward, allowing Blaike to control the perfect one/one position, in fourth spot in a field of 8 runners.
The field stayed in this formation but the leading pair were going at very steady sectional splits running into the home turn before the moves started and the leaders began to yield.
Blaike angled 3 deep off the heels of the leaders as the field straightened and in a blink,
TOO MUCH CLASS had taken control of the race, forging to the front without another runner being able to make any impression.
At the 220m Blaike pushed the go button and
TOO MUCH CLASS responded, dashing 2 lengths away with such authority that from the 180m to the post, Blaike could allow our filly to cruise to the line under her own steam, whilst our jockey kept peeking over his shoulder to ensure there was no late rally from any competitor. Blaike need not have worried, as the
Dynamic Duo rolled across the finishing line eased down by 1.08 lengths ahead of the runner-up Ita ($14) with a further half-length back to Mandalorian ($26) in third.
Despite the slow early tempo and the jog across the finish line,
TOO MUCH CLASS still stopped the clock in a slick
1:22.92 coming home in
33.76 which mathematically gave her peers zero hope to run her down over the 1400m.
Post-race Blaike was full of praise for his mount reporting:
“Yeah lovely filly. Looks like a nice horse, and has got all the attributes.
“In the run it was sweet and pulling up she was fine, bounced lovely, got to a lovely spot. Travelled in the run like it wants blinkers, and raced like it wants further, so lovely to get the job done over this shorter trip, that’s the class about her.
“Lovely filly and going in the right direction, a lovely ride.”
Dynamic Syndications purchased TOO MUCH CLASS from GOOREE PARK STUD dispersal of the Estate of the Late Eduardo Cojuangco at the Magic Millions in August for $55,000.
TOO MUCH CLASS is our third winner from 3 starters that we purchased from the GOOREE PARK dispersal.
At that stage she had only raced once before a spell. We had no hesitation sending the filly back to Gooree Park after purchasing her, to continue her spell and then commence pre-training for us, until we transferred her down to the Ciaron Maher Racing Stables at Warwick Farm.
TOO MUCH CLASS is a daughter of SMART MISSILE from SKYLINE BLUSH (by Northern Meteor), a 5-time winner from 1400m to 2000m and Gr3 performer.
Her 2nd Dam
Cara Y Cruz was a winner of 3 races to 1900m and she is a half-sister to 4-time stakes winner
GAMBLE ME.
TOO MUCH CLASS has now taken her record to 3 Starts: 1 Win, 1 Second and picked up $13,200 for Sunday’s win and advanced her earnings to $17,100.
On the strength of this result, there appears more success in the offering when she gets out to 1600m and further.
It was just last weekend that two other Dynamic purchases from GOOREE PARK being DOMINANT LADY and AWESOME LAD both won.
The next purchase from this sale ready to face the starter is
MAJOR ARTIE who will face the starter in the near future.
