TOO MUCH CLASS has taken to her racing career with gusto for
Dynamic Syndications and our top team of co-owners that race the talented daughter of Smart Missile when she recorded her
second win on the bounce for the
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stables, when she demolished her peers over 1600m in a Benchmark 58 at Orange of Friday.
TOO MUCH CLASS ($1.80) won Race 7, the Orange Vet Hospital Bm58 1600m on a Good 4 in a slick time of 1:34.97 by an eased down but widening 2.21 lengths over second favourite Grace Augusta ($5.00)(59.5ks) with Hibern ($13) (57.0kgs) 3.75 lengths in third.
TOO MUCH CLASS scores easily at Orange 8-1-21
For what was not much more than a training gallop, she picked up appearance money of $11,200 + $5,265 BOBS Bonus.
TOO MUCH CLASS now has a record of
4 Starts: 2-1-0 and $33,925 and has significant upside plus had added nice residual value to her broodmare pedigree.
TOO MUCH CLASS has now had 3 starts for
Team Dynamic, recording 2 wins and a first-up desperately unlucky runner-up slot by just 0.19 length over an unsuitably short 1280m.
Last start she was eased down to a canter against handy opposition as a $1.40 chance and won accordingly over 1400m at Canberra. The horses that were runner-up and third behind her, franked that form with impressive runs at their next starts.
We had several options for our next start for
TOO MUCH CLASS but chose to go to Orange to continue her education and build upon her racecraft and obtain confidence wins for both horse and owners, before venturing closer to town for upcoming events.
Our belief she is a metropolitan standard filly, who is crying out for distances between 1600m to 2000m or maybe a touch further with a little more experience.
TOO MUCH CLASS has an electric turn of foot and can peel off strong closing sectionals and its always exciting when you get a horse out in trip that can go to sleep early in a race, and then peel off fast closing splits, because they give their owners a lot of fun.
Racing in country grade is not a reflection on her ability, it was about placing her to advantage, slowly going through her grades and slowly rising in Benchmark levels, whilst gaining valuable experience and fitness as we head towards better standard races.
Co-Owner Dave Simpson was on track at Orange to watch TOO MUCH CLASS and saw her pre-race
TOO MUCH CLASS was initially owned by Eduardo Cojuangco (
Gooree Park) and was initially trained by Mark Newnham as a 2yo, where she had one barrier trial at Warwick Farm over 740m in March which she won, before inexplicably being thrown to the wolves first-up off just the one trial over a totally unsuitable 1100m at Warwick Farm, blowing from $26 - $41 where she was run off her legs finishing 11th and was spelled.
She resumed with a trial win at Warwick Farm in July over 807m.
Gooree Park is a major partner with Team Dynamic where we spell and pre-train many of our horses.
The passing of Eduardo Cojuangco, resulted in his racing stock being taken out of training and the Estate offered them for an Unreserved Dispersal Sale on the Magic Millions in August. It’s not always what you know, often it can be who you know, and
Gooree Park boss Andrew Baddock gave us some vital information about all their horses and we purchased each of the ones we wanted.
TOO MUCH CLASS at the sales the day we purchased her
TOO MUCH CLASS was purchased for $55,000 and we immediately gave the filly to the highly professional and experienced
Ciaron Maher Stables at Warwick Farm to train for us.
We put her straight into training and because she was quite wayward and still knew very little in racecraft, we gave her two foundation fitness trials at Warwick Farm, where these were used just to lay foundation fitness without pressure and teach her to relax and travel on the bridle in her races.
We knew on pedigree genetics she was a miler plus horse and the sprints were never going to suit her.
We were also aware that she needed race experience to keep learning.
We were aware that the filly couldn’t balance under sprint trips and she would be off the bit chasing, so we didn’t want to run less than 1400m but the racing calendar didn’t suit, so we went back to country level to resume over 1280m which was too short, but better than 1200m.
She got back to last that day and was checked at the 300m before sizzling home to just miss out.
Then we toyed with some good horses in a 1400m event at Canberra on 13 December.
We then had a look at our options and decided we would go back to Orange in a Bm58 1600m because we would be well-weighted and would get the right trip on what we would hope was a drier track than those closer to the coast.
Also, Orange has a cut away rail and we knew that she couldn’t lead in the run, so if she was trapped in a pocket and held-up, there was always a way clear at the 300m.
This turned out to be the right race and the right decision because we came up with Barrier 1 and the races were run on a Good surface. When we did the form, we had our filly rating to $1.65 chance and $6.00 and longer the rest.
Tactically we wanted to be cruising on the fence one or two pairs back, tracking the speed and then approaching the home turn, angle off the fence and then wait until balanced before hitting the go button.
It’s very rewarding when a plan comes off as it did here.
TOO MUCH CLASS returns to the Winner's Stall
Jumping away cleanly, our rider didn’t push up but got into a rhythm, whilst the second favourite and eventual runner-up Grace Augusta came across to lead the fence with Tresse D’or at its girth.
Then it was perfect as $71 outside Red Hot Tango took-off, injecting ridiculous speed into the event as several began to chase it. This worked out perfectly as
TOO MUCH CLASS was asleep back on the fence, 3 pairs and in a rhythm as the field thundered past the 1200m.
At the 1000m the leader had opened up a 3-length lead over the those behind her and our filly was another two lengths back on the fence some 5-lengths off the speed.
At the 800m the leader had opened up a 5-length break over the second horse and
TOO MUCH CLASS was still 2 lengths off that horse back on the fence.
Passing the 450m as the field begins to turn into the straight, Michell Bell angled one off the fence to the outside of the leader who was quickly yielding, and onto the back of Grace Augusta who was now eyeballing the leader.
As the field straightened for the run home, Grace August angled to the centre of the track which left the run to the inside of that runner as the gap opened and Mitchell allowed
TOO MUCH CLASS a little rein and our filly quickly responded.
At the 200m
TOO MUCH CLASS held a neck lead and the rider then pushed the go button and our filly sprinted away to such an extent that it was not mush more than a walk over the final 50m to record a widening 2.21 length win.
