Boom – What a buy! Having purchased the
penultimate lot on Day 2, Team Dynamic needed to be deliberately patient again and like the day before, it worked a treat, as
7th lot from the end of the 94th NZ Bloodstock National Yearling Sale at Karaka was
claimed by Dynamic Syndications.
Having already purchased 2 sensational yearlings earlier in the sale, with Day 1,
Lot 123 the ASTERN x MY TYPE Colt and then on Day 2, we just wanted the one lot which we purchased,
Lot 469. She was a sensational
Savabeel Filly from the O’Reilly mare BINGO from WAIKATO STUD.
On
Day 3, there was just one lot that pushed our buttons and we had to wait until the final throws of the sale for him to walk through the salering and we claimed the horse we wanted.
Our latest edition to Team Dynamic - Lot 670 LONHRO x IN THE GROOVE
LOT 670 – a stunning looking and masculine colt by super sire LONHRO x INTO THE GROOVE by REDOUTE’S CHOICE.
He vetted out by Dr Tim Roberts our contracted veterinarian along with our earlier
Astern Colt purchase as one of the
TOP 5 Colts on the Salegrounds based on type.
He was also crystal clear on x-rays and a perfect Grade 1 scope.
He was just a ripper. Its been a long time since us hard heads at
Team Dynamic had that sensation of nervous energy about a horse we wanted to buy, but this colt had lured us in, and we really wanted him to
Be Dynamic.
We couldn’t believe our good fortune,
we had $200,000 + one extra bid (if needed), loaded in the chamber and ready to fire at the auctioneer. However, both Adam and Dean had that awful sense of dread you can get when you want something desperately but at the back of your mind is that nagging doubt that you’re likely to get out bid in the heat of battle. It’s the
FOMO effect –
the fear of missing out – but we are disciplined and had our ceiling price.
LONHRO had already seen
5 of his yearlings sell during the sale for
$675,000, $280,000, $200,000, $175,000 and $130,000 producing an average of
$252,000 and a median of $200,000.
They had also
averaged $175,000 at the Magic Millions.
We were convinced he was the
best on type and best on genetics, being out of a
Redoute’s Choice mare with that cross delivering a massive
16 stakes winners. We also had done our
due diligence and knew he was
clean on x-ray and scope. We knew he was a touch light on pedigree but that was being countered by being such a legendary looking individual.
However the big asset we had in our favour is that we had unspent money in our pocket, where a lot of buyers had filled their shopping list earlier and the locals had gone home, whilst most overseas buyers who had stayed the extra day, had by now disappeared to the airport.
Adam Watt had to make the same decision whether to stay one extra night to be on hand to bid on the colt or leave with the two yearlings we already purchased.
There was no point staying if the vendor was talking telephone numbers as a reserve, so a chat was had between Adam and the vendor where the reserve was advised at $80,000 and it would be on the market there and let the ebb and flow of the sales ring decide.
At that realistic reserve, Adam believed he should stay the extra day and it proved a
masterstroke.
With few opponents in the vicinity, the bidding opened at just $30,000 and slowly crept along.
Adam wanted to be sure he was on the $80,000 reserve leg so when bidding was at $70,000 Adam countered at
$80,000 and we knew it was on the market.
The next 60 seconds of any sale at any auction is always agony, as the auctioneer desperately tries to extract another bid, whilst you must suffer the emotion of not wanting to be countered.
Waiting, waiting, waiting, crash and the gavel hits the desk and the sensational looking LONHRO colt was heading back across the ditch with Team Dynamic.
Sirecam of Lot 670 - Lonhro x Into The Groove colt. from Dynamic Syndications on Vimeo.
We simply couldn’t believe it, and to be fair, it was unjust to the
vendor Carlaw Park Stud that they produced such a magnificent individual in such great order but due to bad luck, had drawn a spot in the last few lots of the sale.
We empathise with the team at Carlaw Park but from their perspective, he’s sold and the don’t have to feed him anymore. That’s now our responsibility for which we are delighted to accept.
Team DYNAMIC and our Owners have had great success with the LONHRO progeny, and this colt is without doubt, the best looking of all that we have purchased, and he has that magical cross being out of a Redoute’s Choice mare backing him up.
