Team DYNAMIC Score Last Gasp Win Deep in Extra Time with Super Strike

In the
depths
of
extra time
, with literally less than a handful of seconds remaining on the clock, a
stunning last gasp strike
by
Team Dynamic sealed a valuable victory
at the
Magic Millions
, ensuring we walked away with top honours and all the points in 2025.
With all the
expected drama and nail-biting tension
that elite sport delivers, at the conclusion of
FULL TIME for Book 1
at the Magic Millions on Friday evening, the scorecard revealed we had purchased
eleven (11) awesome yearlings that will carry our silks into battle in the years ahead.
However, there would be more to come.
Arriving at the grounds with the intention of
purchasing half a dozen
youngsters, we have walked away with a
sensational crop representing the
“Best of the Best”
from leading thoroughbred nurseries.
An array of the best bloodlines was matched with excellent genetic balance and cracking conformation.
Yearlings by Champion Sires such as
I AM INVINCIBLE, EXCEED AND EXCEL
and
ZOUSTAR
were joined by rising young Sires such as Second Crop sensation
TOO DARN HOT
(Champion First Crop Sire in Australia & current Leading Second Crop Sire) and two of his peers in emerging young second season sires
BIVOUAC
(Co-Champion Australian 3YO Sprinter in 2019-20) and
ADMIRE MARS
(Champion 2YO in Japan).
We also added the
3/4-sister to Alligator Blood
who is
also
a
1/2-Sister to our latest Stakes Winner Saint Emilion
when we purchase the fabulous filly by proven sire
ALL TOO HARD
.
Also joining the squad were an awesome foursome of fantastic yearlings by
four (4) First Crop Sires:
STAY INSIDE (Golden Slipper Winning Champion 2YO in 2020-21.
HOME AFFAIRS (Brilliant 3YO winner of the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and Gr1 Lightning Hcp).
Along with the Best of European First Crop Sire Stars:
PALACE PIER (Champion 3YO and Older Male Miler in Europe in 2020 and 2021)
ST MARK’S BASILICA (Champion 2YO Colt in Europe in 2020).
This is a roster we are rightly proud to have assembled.
Further,
Dynamic Syndications / Dean Watt Bloodstock
were sitting in
co-premiership position
,
equal-top on the premiership table
for
Lots purchased by syndication companies
at the sale.
Or were we?
Wait ….. there’s more!
Magic Millions Book 2 was held over two days on Sunday and Monday and having purchased 11 yearlings from Book 1 ensured we didn’t want or need to go shopping in Book 2 and just as well, as there was not one yearling that captured our attention based upon: pedigree, genetics commerciality or conformation. Book 2 yearlings were in that lesser session for obvious reasons.
However, Book 1 results were still being recorded and it’s here things changed.
During our inspections prior to the start of Book 1, in the
Coolmore Stud draft
we uncovered a colossal colt by Champion racehorse and highly successful sire
SO YOU THINK ex SULTAH (By Exceed And Excel).
Apart from his handsome looks with conformation to match, he has an excellent genetic rating score, and a massive pedigree page.
He is the ninth foal from the mare
SULTAH
a winner of 3 races from 5 starts. She is a
half-sister
Stakes Winners
REBEL RAIDER; SHAMOLINE WARRIOR
and
CADILLAC MOUNTAIN.
SULTAH
has now produced
7 foals to race = 7 winners including two (2) Stakes Winners: TARAAYEF
and
HAYBAH;
Stakes Placed
MURAAHIB
and GHENWAA – Dam of Stakes Placed
TASHI
and of
Dynamic Syndications highly promising mare RAPT
who was 4th in a Stakes race first up for the prep before winning at Randwick. She is being set for a 1600m stakes race at Randwick over the autumn carnival. The colt’s 2nd Dam is stakes placed
PICHOLINE.
Our Vet rated this Colt with a Score of 8
, a very high mark. Naturally, not knowing in advance if we would be bidding on him or not,
Dr Tim Roberts
read his X-rays and viewed his endoscopic report and found he was
sound and right of wind and limb.
His only issue was he was so late in the sale as
lot 1004
, and with the sale concluding at
lot 1021
that would be located in the final half-hour of the marathon final session on Friday afternoon.
So, we were faced with a conundrum, did we leave fuel in the tank and wait for that yearling with no guarantee we could purchase him in the ring, or did we buy yearlings earlier in the sale and fill our quota of marque yearlings and let 1004 slide past. Fate would decide. As it eventuated, we had
eleven (11) lots, five (5) more than we had anticipated purchasing,
and they were representing such great value we just couldn’t say no.
After we purchased
Lot 953 our ZOUSTAR x SLOW THE FLOW Colt
taking the scorecard to 11, we elected to close the catalogue with just over an hour remaining in the sale.
To ensure we weren’t tempted, we left the sale ground.
Watching online,
Lot 1004 entered the salering and exited 90 seconds later, passed-in at a bid of $70,000 on a $150,000 reserve.
SO YOU THINK in 2022
the year he covered the mare, stood at Coolmore Stud for
$93,500 inc GST ($85,000).
At $150,000 that was less than two-times service fee.
So You Think had 16 yearlings offered at the sale, all 16 sold for an Average $154,063, Min $30,000 to Max $340,000.
His reserve price we felt was extremely fair and would have represented good buying at that. No doubt that had the colt been sold earlier on Day 1 or Day 2 he would have sailed past that amount.
Coolmore Stud had many times with their draft at this sale placed a reserve on their lot and passed the yearlings in and would negotiate back at the stable door.
However, this time that tactic didn’t work because like us, many buyers had already left the complex or were already full with other purchases.
When we did our review on the sale later that night, we noted the horse remained unsold. We checked again on Saturday and again on Sunday morning prior to the Book 2 sale starting.
Team Dynamic has a great relationship with Coolmore, buying many yearlings from the famed nursery over the years with much success.
Earlier in the sale we had
purchased three (3) of their draft: I AM INVINCIBLE
$200,000
; HOME AFFAIRS
$130,000
& ST MARK’S BASILICA
$150,000
.
We rang the boys at Coolmore and inquired what they were doing with Lot 1004. They advised that they wanted to sell him and not take him home to the Hunter Valley. However, they wanted full odds at $150,000.
That was of no interest at $150,000 because we had spent our budget. They advised that they were leaving the colt with their Book 2 horses at the complex for a couple of Days until Monday night to sell him at the stable door to someone looking at their Book 2 horses. That was fair, and I wished them well but advised he was too expensive for Team Dynamic as we had spent our budget.
Late on Monday afternoon the phone rang
, and it was the
Coolmore Team
inquiring did I still have interest. Again, I advised I liked the horse, but the budget was spent. They said they didn’t want to take him home nor did they want to give him away, so they offered to drop the reserve a massive $50,000 and sell the colt to Team Dynamic at $100,000.
I thanked them for their generosity however it was still beyond my budget limits. I advised them that if they wanted, the best I could do was match the $70,000 bid in the ring. However that was rejected as they said they would keep him and prepare him for the ready-to-run sale later in the year. That’s fine and I wished them well with that endeavour but reminded them the costs verse returns and cashflow being restricted, and a
“bird in the hand was worth two in the bush”
and we concluded the call.
Obviously, their team spoke and called us back five minutes later and advised that they couldn’t and wouldn’t do $70,000 + GST but because of
our long-standing association
and the fact that
we had already purchased three from them
, they would take
$85,000
+ GST
which was the service fee paid to get the mare in foal.
We agreed and the deal was done at
$85,000 + GST
which was another
sales gift.
The only drawback was the fact that the deal was done so late that the light had faded under overcast skies and the photographers and video teams had packed-up and left. So we missed the saleyard scenery but that was offset at the brilliant buying price.
This final purchase jumped our spend and took our total yearling purchase to
twelve (12)
which placed us as
outright leader by purchased lots of all the syndication companies
and also placed us in
eighth position in the Top 10 Buyers at the sale by number of lots purchased.
We purchased
11 under the buyers name
DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS/DEAN WATT BLOODSTOCK
and one being the TOO DARN HOT Colt
under
DEAN WATT BLOODSTOCK/DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS/CIARON MAHER/HONG KONG BLOODSTOCK.
We spent:
$1,810,000
, Ave
$150,833,
Med
$140,000
, Min
$60,000
to Max
$320,000
We are excited to capture photos and videos of the colt at the spelling farm over the next couple of weeks to share with our followers.
Demand has been high for our yearling purchases with
already four (
4
) yearlings having been fully reserved
and only a few shares remaining in
another three (
3
) yearlings
whilst every yearling has had equity reserved whilst we await Racing NSW to review our documents and issue approval letters co we can advertise our yearlings.
