Dynamic Syndications 4yo Mare COURU (All Too Hard x Pas De Deux) scored an impressive win in the Class 2 Keep Your Distance Handicap, a 1400m event at Armidale on Sunday 19/4 for our Scone based trainer Brett Cavanough.
Top Weight
COURU was asked to carry 59.0kgs and did so comfortably from barrier 8 in a field of 11 under jockey Andrew Gibbons when recording a 1.77 length win over The Timewarp (55.0kgs) with a further 0.43 length back to Mick’s Regret (55.0kgs) in third spot.
COURU took her race career to now read:
11 starts = 3 Wins, 1 Second.
This was her second start for this preparation and she came into this race off 6 weeks between her first-up and second-up start but the horse husbandry and training of NSW’s leading country-based horseman was to the fore and our mare looked a treat and raced accordingly under the big weight.
Drawing wide at the 1400m start at this track is a disadvantage so to counter that, we wanted to go forward and take up an on-pace position. As the gates crashed back, Andrew Gibbons rode aggressively however the field all pushed forward as well, keeping
COURU trapped out wide and working harder than anticipated.
Andrew Gibbons experience kicked in and as the initial pace started to yield, he drove forward and he attacked for the lead. One other runner wanted the front, so Andrew got
COURU cross over and settle at that runner’s girth in second position, from the 1100m to the 350m, which was when the field turned into the home straight.
COURU was given her head and she dashed 3 lengths infront and was under no threat.
COURU leading at the 50m
Over the final 100m our mare was well in control so Andrew was able to sit up on
COURU and let her glide to the post under her own steam to record a dominant win.
