Darley shuttle stallion and exciting first-season sire
TOO DARN HOT
(GB)
added a
third
Gr3 Winner (
all fillies
)
to his tally on Wednesday when
CAROLINA REAPER
scored a tough win in the
Group 3 Zukunfts Rennen
(1400m) at Baden-Baden in Germany.
Trained in the UK by Charlie Johnston, she was fifth last start behind another
Too Darn Hot filly in
Fallen Angel
in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket and as a result went to the post as favourite for this assignment.
Settled towards the rear of the field under jockey Jack Mitchell, the filly came wide around the final turn and moving across to the stands side rail, produced a brilliant late surge to snatch a neck victory on the line.
Carolina Reaper took her overall record to two wins from five starts.
Carolina Reaper was bred by Lordship Stud and is one of four winners out of the Stakes-winning Shamardal mare Dark Promise. The mare herself is a half-sister to Gr1 Oaks winner Love Divine, dam of St Leger winner Sixties Icon. Dark Promise is also a three-quarter sister to Shamardal’s multiple Gr1 winner Dan Excel.
Jockey Jack Mitchell said
“It was a tough race for her.
“In England, she's very sharp and she can make the running, but today she just didn't want to. I had to ride her differently, wherever she was happy, and she did enough for me.”
She was bought for 46,000 guineas by Johnston Racing from the Watership Down Stud draft at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2.
Carolina Reaper is the best of four winners from stakes-winning Shamardal mare Dark Promise, a half-sister to Group 1 Epsom Oaks winner Love Divine, the dam of Group 1 St Leger winner Sixties Icon.

UK based first-season sire has had as many Group Winners at this stage for 20 years.
TOO DARN HOT returns to Darley NSW this spring at a fee of $44,000.
With his first Australian two-year-olds to race this new season, the market here in Australia is eagerly awaiting his progeny to grace the racetrack.
Dynamic Syndications have just a handful of shares remaining in our 2yo Filly by TOO DARN HOT (GB) from PHENETIC (GB) being trained by Richard and William Freedman at Rosehill.
Our filly is giving us every indication she is heading in the same direction as the sire’s fantastic fillies in the Northern Hemisphere.
