Promising Dynamic mare TRICK SHOT scored a gutsy and courageous victory at Canterbury Park on Wednesday afternoon scoring in Race 5 the Hyland Race Colours Bm75 1900m for Team Dynamic, trainer Chris Waller and jockey Tommy Berry.
Specifically we were thrilled for our owners and in particular the horse herself, because the win was well deserved. Trick Shot’s form was outstanding leading into the event but luck had deserted the mare her previous start when held up at a vital stage in the straight, for a head second only 4 days earlier.
After Saturday’s event, trainer Chris Waller and Dean Watt from Dynamic mapped out today’s win.
Chris was confident the mare was only now peaking and was extremely well placed in a Benchmark 75 with the limit weight of 54.0 kgs seeing a big drop of 4.5 kgs from her Saturday run. She was rock hard fit and ready to run.
Chris then communicated with Dean again on Tuesday afternoon confirming that the mare had done extremely well so it was agreed to run.
The race plan was ridden perfectly to instruction by leading rider Tommy Berry.
We wanted Trick Shot to be positive as per her racing style. It was obvious to all who do speed maps and form that two runners Knockabout and Dolphi’s Boy would roll forward and run them along. So we asked Tommy to push up and should the map turn out as expected the mare would end up in the box seat on the fence behind the leader and get a nice trail throughout before both leaders may be suspect and run out of gas.
It was run perfectly to script. Tommy Berry piloted the mare perfectly and the mare ran to expectation. Tommy got Trick Shot into the perfect trail throughout and approaching the 500m Tommy tried to ease out into the running line but was held in the pocket until straightening where Trick Shot gained the split and quickly bowled to the lead before a strong challenge came late from Chris Waller’s stablemate Coup Acclaim, who was closing fast but not fast enough and we hit the line first.
It proved outstanding tactics and a great training performance, married to a top ride all combined to give Trick Shot her well-deserved victory.
Trick Shot has now raced on 15 occasions for 3 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds and $104,620.
Congratulations to our ownership team: D Watt, A Bradley, Mrs A Edwards, A Beaton, D Micallef, Mrs M Hill, Ms P Leeper, G Macdonald, A Phillip and G Wilkinson.
Sincere thanks goes to trainer Chris Waller and his devoted team members, Tommy Berry and of course our mare Trick Shot.
