Zoustar had a productive Saturday with two (2) new stakes-winners growing his tally firstly to 50 Stakes Winners then his 51st Stakes Winner shortly after.
Growing Empire
Starting off with the Ciaron Maher trained two-year-old colt Growing Empire, winning the Listed MVRC Moonee Valley Pearl, and that was followed later in the day in Adelaide by four-year-old mare Climbing Star, who took out the Listed SAJC Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.
Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar racked up a milestone at Moonee Valley posting his 50th stakes-winner when the aptly named, talented colt Growing Empire scored a stylish victory in the Listed MVRC Valley Pearl (1200m).
Growing Empire did a good job when beaten narrowly on debut at Randwick last month to subsequent Group placed filly Chateau Miraval, but he crashed through the outside running rail after the post and was sent back to the trials as a result.
With another trial under his belt and the addition of blinkers, Growing Empire made no mistakes in his first try at stakes company, kicking up to lead from gate one and holding his rivals at bay to win by two lengths with Ethan Brown in the saddle.
“He was well prepared for today and he can go on with it” said Ethan Brown.
Growing Empire was a $700,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Yulong from the Vinery Stud draft and is a half-sister to Group 3 placed Dancing Alone from Group 2 placed Snitzel mare Miles of Krishan, a half-sister to Group 1 winner Il Quello Veloce, stakes-winner Donna Cattiva and to the dam of Group 3 Canberra Black Opal Stakes winner Holmes a Court.
It’s a very fast Black Type family that has also produced Group 1 winning sprinters Terravista and Tiger Tees.
Miles of Krishan has a yearling filly by I Am Invincible and another filly to follow by Zoustar and was covered by I Am Invincible again last year.
Climbing Star
Then his 51st Stakes Winner came from his daughter Climbing Star who had been twice Group placed, so was overdue for Black Type success and got the job done with a commanding victory scoring by almost three lengths at her first run back from a spell.
A $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden Stud draft, Climbing Star runs for an ownership team that includes her breeder Qatar Bloodstock and has the overall record of two wins and four seconds from 12 starts with prizemoney topping $260,000.
“We’ve always had a big opinion of her,” said Phillip Stokes.
“We set her for this race and then to the Robert Sangster (Gr1) in three weeks. We’ve always known she had a heap of ability and she’s just gotten better with age.”
Climbing Star is a half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Sansom and is the fourth winner from Fastnet Rock mare Bryony, a sister to Group 1 winner Heroic Valour and three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner Triple Honour.
Bryony had another filly by Zoustar last year and is back in foal to him again.
Climbing Star is the 51st stakes-winner for Zoustar and is bred on the Zoustar x Fastnet Rock nick, which is becoming ever more successful.
Whilst Zoustar progeny picked-up black type when three-year-old-colt Schwarz (Zoustar x Summer Sham (Not A Single Doubt) finished runner-up in the Darby Munro Stakes LR 1200m at Rosehill.
Also further black type was added to the page of 3yo Filly Inhibitions (Zoustar x Workdrinks (Fastnet Rock), when her trainer James Cummings and rider Ben Melham combined to finish third in the Don Casboult Classic Gr3 1200m at The Valley.
Zoustar followed his successful Saturday with a winning double at Sha Tin on Sunday.

With all our Team Dynamic yearling purchases, we like to give them 4-6 weeks to unwind and
get over that experience, allowing the high protein feed and
supplements that they have been fed to pass through their system, and
allow these young horses the opportunity to get back in touch with nature, roaming
freely and playing in the paddock with a mate of two before undertaking
the process of being taught to be a horse and to be ridden.
The work done here is as vital as the work leading into a Group 1 race.
Shortcuts, or poor horsemanship can be the difference between failure or success at this vital stage of a young horse’s ultimate career.
We are desperate to ensure they are given the best care and attention, and we believe this is our “ace in the pack” having the services of Australia’s Leading Horseman – Shane Rose.

now the process of a rider on her back and responding to commands of the rider.

Our Filly 22 March
From the start to completion depending upon the individual horse, it will take between 4 to 6 weeks to graduate “Kindergarten.” This is where they are taught to respond to touch and pressure, and work with a rider not against the rider, laying the foundations for success.
Bred by Gerry Harvey, he liked the filly to such an extent, he has purchased back a "leg" (25%), to race in co-ownership with our Dynamic Owners.
It was a “No Brainer” for Gerry when we purchased the filly and gave it to CIARON MAHER to train her.
After all, Ciaron is Australia’s Number 1 Trainer of Winners.
Obviously, our Leading VIP Dynamic Ownership Team Members agree, as they have jumped aboard to race such a well-bred filly with looks to match.
Type and Residual are regularly the most successful recipe.
That’s why we can proudly announce we have only 5% to go to complete her co-ownership team.
This can be offered in combinations of: 1 x 5% Share or alternatively 2 x 2.5% Shares.
A 5% Share is $16,930 and 2.5% Shares are $8,465.
