Dynamic Syndications unbeaten 3-year-old gelding LOVE TAP (by Tapit (USA)) turned in a
dominant display at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday at what was his Sydney debut, leading from start-to-finish to easily win the
$200,000 Group 3 Precise Air Gloaming Stakes (1800m).
LOVE TAP doing a demolition job on his peers in the Gr3 Gloaming Stakes
Whilst we acknowledge it was far from a vintage edition of the Gloaming Stakes, which boasts a remarkable honour roll of winners,
LOVE TAP the bold-striding Tapit gelding, looks to have
“untapped talent.”
LOVE TAP - floats past the winning post
Not only did
LOVE TAP win easily, he also
proved it against the clock.
LOVE TAP ran the 2nd fastest Gloaming Stakes in the history of the race.
Our winning time of the race was a sizzling
1m 48.89s (last 600m in 34.90s).
Official margins were
1¾L x Short Head.
Only the
2010 edition won by RETRIEVE who defeated EREWHON and PRAECIDO was run quicker in a time of
1:48.30.
Starting Prices on the Gloaming Stakes were:
Love Tap $1.70 favourite, Street Dancer $17.00, and Bucharest $9.00.
Dynamic Syndications and Richard & Michael Freedman trained 3yo gelding
LOVE TAP created a “picket fence (1111)” beside his name, recording his
fourth win from four starts, to maintain his nicely building
“unbeaten” tag when punishing his rivals in the
Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) with a brilliant front-running performance.
Sent to the barriers as a heavily supported
odds-on favourite and sent straight to the front by big race rider Nash Rawiller,
LOVE TAP was in complete command of this assignment every step of the way.
After being given a breather mid-race between the 1000m to the final 600 metres of the contest,
LOVE TAP accelerated to a comfortable lead soon after straightening and never looked likely to be caught at any stage of the event. In the run to the post Nash was able to ease him down yet still recorded a widening margin.
Punter’s Intelligence sectionals show
Nash and LOVE TAP had the race won early, when they clocked the fastest first 800m, then progressively slowed them to the point between the 1000m and 800m where they peeled off a 12.89. Then upped the tempo gradually before putting the foot down at the 600m and increased the tempo by six lengths compared to the previous 200m.
LOVE TAP stretches out in fine style
LOVE TAP came home in an eased down
34.90 secs which was not able to be matched.
LOVE TAP ultimately finished 1¾ lengths clear of
Street Dancer (by Pride of Dubai x Danehill Smile) in second spot, a short head in front of
Bucharest (by Deep Impact x Miss Finland) in third and
Favreau (NZ) in fourth — with this trio finishing in a line across the finishing line.
Nash & Love Tap hands and heels to victory
Our grey three-year-old gelding became the
first Australian Stakes-Winner for his champion USA sire TAPIT.
The near white son of US sire phenomenon, he stepped into both city and stakes company for the first time in his career and
stamped himself as the potential leader of the 2020 3YO Classic Division.
Co-trainer
Richard Freedman said post-race:
Trainer - RICHARD FREEDMAN
“I didn’t expect Nash to lead. I said to Nash don’t let the leaders get too far away. He kind of took that a bit literally.
“I was happy to see him out there. They would have to run some good sectionals to run over him.
“He only does what he has to. He is a pretty relaxed track worker and a pretty relaxed horse generally. That is job done. He’s building.
“It is good that he is versatile. He won his first and second race from back in the field and his last two from on top of the pace.
“He’s willing. He wants to do the right thing.
“He’s on the way up. I’m glad we have him and he’ll be a better horse in 12 months.”
LOVE TAP immediately firmed from $3.50 favourite into $2.50 favourite for his next assignment, the Group 1 2000m Spring Champion Stakes on the 10th October at Randwick.
LOVE TAP had won his previous three starts, a debut win at Nowra and the next two at Goulburn over shorter trips and bred to be at his best at 2000m plus, he was sensationally supported to handle the step up to the 1800m.
He was
deliberately sent to
country venues to
build his resume, build his benchmark rating and earn confidence, whilst learning his racecraft without being pressured.
Our Dynamic 3yo went around as the $1.70 favourite in a nine-horse field in Gr3 company, and he now looks ahead to his first Group 1 assignment in a fortnight in the
$1 million Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.
Asked how he thinks
LOVE TAP will perform in the upcoming Gr1 Spring Champion, Richard Freedman said
“Let’s hope he goes just like that. Or even better, that’s the plan.”
Jockey Nash Rawiller said he had known for a while that
Love Tap is no ordinary horse.
Nash then confessed:
“I’ve loved him from the first time I sat on him. I think I ran last in a Rosehill trial and I came back and said to the boys at Dynamic Syndications that I thought he was a really promising horse.
NASH & LOVE TAP return to the Winners Circle
Nash said after the win:
"I think I ran last in a Rosehill trial and I came back and said to the boys at Dynamic (Syndications) that I thought he was a really promising horse.
"You just like to see them not let you down and so far, he hasn’t, and I guess the main goal is in a couple of weeks' time."
Nash Rawiller explained that an inside barrier draw basically dictated race tactics.
“He was very sticky out of the gates again,” Nash began.
“I gave him a squeeze just to make sure I wasn’t dead last.
“He did what he has been doing and quickly overcame that.
“It certainly wasn’t the plan to lead, but I was very happy to take it up and get him into his own rhythm. Ride him like the horse I think he is!
“He got into a beautiful rhythm down the back there and when a bit of pressure came on about the 700m, he was straight there for it to quicken.
“He got a little bit lost late. He was sort of waiting for them and stargazing a little bit. But I love the way he came again for me on the post when I really asked him.”
“You just like to see them not let you down and so far, he hasn’t … the main goal is in a couple of weeks time.”
Nash has subsequently confirmed on Saturday evening to the boys at Dynamic –
“I think he is your Vic Derby horse. See how he pulls up from the Spring Champion and an alternative to the Cox Plate maybe to contemplate the Norm Robinson (Drummond Golf Vase 3yo SW) as an option, I would just canter around upfront in that race and win, and then we head into the Derby.”
A Handsome Lad
LOVE TAP consolidated his position at the top of the Spring Champion Stakes betting with TAB and Sportsbet who reacted immediately,
slashing his Spring Champion Stakes price from $3.50 into $2.50, his Cox Plate price from $101 to $26 and his Victoria Derby quote from $21 to $11.
But before he goes to Victoria, he will chase Group 1 status in the $1 million Spring Champion Stakes (2000m), for which he is the deserved hot favourite.
His record is now 4 starts: 4 victories and $143,000.

What the beaten jockeys said:
Brenton Avdulla (Achiever): “We ended up a pair further back than I would have liked. Whether he peaked at the trip or wants it better.”
Jeff Penza (Easy Campese): “Good run. He settled nice. When a horse came outside him, he wanted to over-race. Horse is going well but might need a little break now.”
James McDonald (Bucharest): “Super. Going well.”
Hugh Bowman (Cadenabbia): Asked about the nature of the run - “Not [satisfactory] really.”
Regan Bayliss (Street Dancer): “Pretty proud of his efforts coming out of a maiden at Newcastle. He held himself very well. Fourth up he’ll head toward the Spring Champion.”
Josh Parr (Bob): “Nice effort. He is just an immature colt. Needs seasoning.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Sagrado): “Had to go back from the draw. He might have felt the firmer ground today.”
Sam Clipperton (Favreau): “Terrific run. Probably looking for a wetter surface. He is a very classic type of horse. Crying out for a trip.”
LOVE TAP the day we purchased him at the Magic Millions
Purchased by Dynamic Syndications / Dean Watt Bloodstock (FBAA) for $110,000 out of the
Coolmore draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, LOVE TAP was foaled and raised at Coolmore and is one of five winners from as many to race out of the Forestry mare
Smokey’s Love.
After two disappointments with Triple Crown hero American Pharoah (USA), Smokey’s Love headed home to the US in February after her worth increased many fold when her daughter
Fighting Mad (New Year’s Day) added the
Grade 1 Clement L Hirsch Stakes to her wins in the
Grade 2 Santa Maria stakes and
Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes.
Fighting Mad is a homebred for Gary and Mary West who also bred
LOVE TAP to a southern hemisphere covering by the multiple champion sire Tapit (USA).
Smokey’s Love comes from the family of 2005 Florida Derby winner High Fly and multiple Group 3 winner Estimraar.
LOVE TAP handed the
Gainesway Stud-based stallion Tapit (Pulpit) with his
first stakes winner in Australia and 136th overall.
Smokey's Love herself is out of Listed winner Smokey Mirage (Holy Bull), whose four winners are headed by Listed Winner Monsoon Rain (Old Trieste).
Smokey Mirage herself is a sister to half-sister to dual Grade 3 winner Estimraar (Holy Bull), while she counts elite-level winner High Fly (Atticus) as one of her half-siblings. Meanwhile, she is also a half-sister to the dam of Japanese Grade 3 winner Shine Garnet (Orfevre) and Admire Sagace (Fuji Kiseki), who won three times at Listed level in Japan.
In 2019 Smokey's Love produced a colt by Coolmore Stud's Triple Crown-winning shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) which unfortunately was destroyed at birth.
Tapit - a three-time champion stallion in America - has had nine winners from 19 starters in Australia and stood at Gainesway Stud in Kentucky for a fee of
US$200,000 in 2020.
A sire of
25 Individual Gr1 Winners, he is currently sitting in fifth place in the leading sires table in the USA / Canada by earnings with that table headed by Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday).
