VANDANGLE (Vancouver x Danglissa Girl) has recorded
back-to-back Wins for his Loyal Owners when claiming the
Petal Florist Network Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1600m at Tamworth on Saturday 29/1/22.
Our
William Freedman trained galloper, was having just his
5th Start and now has 2 Wins, 1 Second, 1 Third on his career record. This was his third start for this preparation having run 2nd first up, then claiming his maiden over 1400m last start, before going up in class, and up in distance to a mile, for a strong win in a field of
14 runners in this event.
VANDANGLE 59.0kgs ($2.70 eq fav) defeated VELVET LADY (55.0) by 0.69 length with IT’S A POSSIBILITY (55.0) finishing 1.46 lengths away from us in third spot. Vandangle ran a time of 1:36.79 coming home in 36.75 secs.
Jumping from barrier 7 in a field of 14, he was quickly into stride sitting with the leaders for the first 100m before there was a concerted push by a couple of runners to push forward, so our rider
Ben Looker allowed them to keep working forward whilst Ben took hold of Vandangle to get the box seat, one pair back on the fence by the time they run past the 1000m pole.
The field was spread out over 15 lengths as they ran down the side and as they started the swing into the home straight, Ben angled out off the heels of the leader and eventual third place runner, to balance up for the run home.
Passing the 300m Vandangle he went to the front and posted a one length advantage at the 200m mark and maintained that to the 100m where he had the race at his mercy. Ben Looker was able to be soft on Vandangle over the final 75metres whilst runner-up staying mare Velvet Lady made ground late but was never a winning hope.
VANDANGLE cruised past the line under his own steam to post a 0.69 length win.
It was a well-judged ride by Ben Looker, matched to a fine training effort by young William Freedman and his team at Scone, to present Vandangle in excellent order to win at a mile at his third run back for the preparation.
