Will we see the 2022 Golden Slipper Winner on Saturday in the BREEDERS PLATE?
The first black type race of the new season for the colts in New South Wales, the Gr3 Arrowfield Breeders' Plate has assembled a valuable field of 14, with many coming through the 2YO trials held on the Kensington track on September 20.
ZAMBEZI RIVER $1,150,000
The Chris Waller-trained
Zambezi River (I Am Invincible-Zamzam, by Redoute's Choice) purchased by Harron Bloodstock and Tom Magnier's Coolmore Stud for
$1,150,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the Easter sale is the most expensive. Runner-up in his barrier trial behind the Breeders' Plate joint favourite Victory Moments (Spieth-Tris, by Street Boss), who has been unbeaten in two trials, Zambezi River will be aiming to give Waller his third consecutive win in the race and his fourth in the last five years.
PSYCHIATRIST $1,050,000
Not the only $1 million-plus yearling in the field, the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexio trained colt
Psychiatrist (Exceed And Excel-Sanity, by Lonhro) sold for
$1,050,000, impressed in his trial win, defeating fellow Fung Family Racing-owned
$600,000 colt Narnia (Not A Single Doubt-Magic Nera, by Lonhro) and looks a solid chance. Psychiatrist was secured from the draft of Vinery Stud at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale the colt was bred by Victoria's A List Stud and is the first foal of the winning Lonhro mare Sanity, a full sister to Trim, who is in turn the dam of Gr3 winner Manicure, who is bred on the exact same Exceed And Excel x Lonhro pedigree cross as Psychiatrist.
EMPEROR $460,000
Emperor by I Am Invincible x Jolie Bay cost $460,000 and Calico Jack a son of first season sire Merchant Navy x Shrill was a $425,000 colt.
CALICO JACK $425,000
Whilst of the
14 acceptors, 4 were not offered for sale through the yearling ring. They were
Master Showman (Snitzel x Treppes), Spacewalk (Exosphere x Benenden), Victory Moments (Spieth x Tris) and One Destiny (Super One x Star Of Destiny).
One Destiny is the
“fairytale” story of the race being unfashionably bred and having been sold for
$5,000 as a weanling, his trainer has waved a magic wand to get him to qualify and that would be a rags to riches story should he be successful.
RESONATOR $360,000
Newgate Farm / China Horse Club and partners have been having a great run of late, and they will be represented by
Resonator (Brazen Beau x Dejavu Rock) who they paid
$360,000 to secure and has the advantage of a soft draw, Nash Rawiller and a Waterhouse and Bott bone and muscle preparation.
KIBOU $170,000
Joint favourite
Kibou (Maurice x Fortiche) also trained by Gai and Adrian was a
$170,000 colt from the Classic sale and is a real surprise packet with a pedigree and conformation to suggest he would be far better past 1600m as a 3yo, he showed great dash in his trial win.
HARD TO SAY $160,000
Dynamic Syndications are delighted with the progression of our runner
HARD TO SAY who is being trained by talented horseman
Jason Deamer. We paid
$160,000 to buy the son of World Champion 2yo sire Exceed and Excel x Malasun (winner of the Blue Diamond Preview on debut). He was forced to trial at Scone due to lockdown restrictions and brings a different set of thinking to the limited exposed trial form of all runners. Our colt trialled over slightly further than the others and was uncomfortable on a sodden track yet still won eased down by just on 2 lengths.
Being on a better surface on Saturday will allow him to stretch out with confidence and his track gallops have been right up to the mark. Whispers obviously have got out because he has been backed in from an opening price of
$61 into $21. Sam Clipperton has been entrusted with the ride and we expect our colt to be in a position to track the speed throughout and
wish his team of Dynamic Lady Owners all the best.
Of the 14 Acceptors:
