Courage, Determination, Ability, Class, now add in
Tough, Adaptable and Genuine - it was all on display at Rosehill on Saturday when outstanding
3YO ARBEITSAM dropped back in distance from 1800m to 1400m, carried the top weight of
59.5kgs and gave pilot
Tim Clark an armchair ride to score by a length in Race 3: Sydney Spring Carnival On Sale Plate - 3YO Set Weights & Penalties over 1400m on a Good Track.
ARBEITSAM defeats THE PHARAOH and REACH FOR HEAVEN
ARBEITSAM (59.5kg) defeated THE PHARAOH (56.0kg) by 1 length with another 1.3 lengths to REACH FOR HEAVEN (56.0kg) in third.
With this win, ARBEITSAM took his career to 11 starts: 4 wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds & $308,900 including three (3) Sydney Saturday Class, Metropolitan Wins.
This preparation he has raced 5 occasions: 2 wins, 2 seconds, earning $188,000.
Having raced brilliantly over 1800m the previous start, the original plans to run in the Benchmark 85 over 2000m. However when the nominations came out on Monday morning, the 1400m 3YO SW&P looked very appealing. When ratings by our form experts were analysed, we believed we had an excellent hope and could win either race, so it would depend on how he performed at trackwork on the Tuesday morning.
He put in a
sizzling piece of work at Randwick that had the
HALL OF FAME Champion Trainer re-assessing which way to head.
Having proved he could run beyond a mile, after his excellent run the start before, a review of our forward options coming out of the race was then undertaken.
In the end, it was decided to put in a late nomination into the 3YO and accept in both races and see how the final fields panned out after acceptances, then make up our minds.
Especially as this was our last chance to run as a 3YO and run for
BOBS. The older horse Benchmark events over ground will always be available for us in the future.
Gai and Adrian were adamant the horse could win either race. His work was that brilliant. What swung their decision was that having run 1800m last start, ARBEITSAM was rock hard fit and would prove exceptionally hard to run past, leading over 1400m.
The genius of GAI was on display again !
You can't buy wisdom and experience. GAI and Adrian were correct and Tim Clark followed instructions perfectly and ARBEITSAM was awesome.
ARBEITSAM ran a brilliant 1:23.38 leading from barrier to post. That time was just 0.04 (4/100ths) outside the Class Record and ARBEITSAM was never placed under heavy pressure from a challenger.
Pre-race, Sky Channel presenter Nic Ashman said about ARBEITSAM “He’s a good horse, he’s well above average this bloke, he’s capable of running some very slick sectionals. I thought he was particularly gallant when going from 1400m to 1800m last time, off a 7 day gap, obviously coming back to the 1400m is a little query, but after formline on Thursday where we raised the issue about how well he had freshened up, I made some inquires and I am told he has freshened up a treat and worked sensationally on Tuesday, so hopefully we see the best of ARBEITSAM today.”
Chantelle Buckley for Sky Channel when asked to describe how ARBEITSAM looked in the yard said: “He looks fantastic, he’s honest, he’s neat, he’s a compact type of a gelding, he’s rock-hard fit and his coat is in tip-top order.”
Sky Channel - Pick of the Yard: was ARBEITSAM. Chantelle Buckley said: “I'm with the Top Weight ARBEITSAM - he looks absolutely fantastic, he's rock-hard fit, he's neat and compact gelding, lovely and relaxed, he'll bounce back from last start and he’s on top from me.”
Sky Channel presenter Greg Radley said post-race:
“All honours to the front runner ARBEITSAM, coming back from 1800m to 1400m but having a picnic out in front and he’s hard to run down; and they couldn't. THE PHARAOH ran second and REACH FOR HEAVEN ran third but they were never, never going to run down ARBEITSAM.”
Fellow Sky Channel presenter Nic Ashman commented: “The race was won in the first half of the race when he was able to lead and hum along without looking like he was pushed in his comfort zone. You knew he was going to finish the race off strongly with that 1800m run under his belt, they just didn't get near him, ARBEITSAM - too big, too strong, too fast !”
Tim Clark returns to scale with ARBEITSAM
Greg Radley then interviewed Adrian Bott -
“Well it was a bit of an effort 1800m back to 1400m but you pulled the right rein.”
Dynamic Fiona welcomes ARBEITSAM to the Winner's Circle with a congratulatory pat for his great win !
Adrian said
“Yes it was a good effort today and it wasn't an easy task. It was a bit of a risk coming back to the 1400m, but we had a fit horse and it looked to map well for him, so it allowed us to bowl along today. He has a good high cruising speed, and would make it a good test for them because he is a fit horse.”
Greg Radley added:
“Yes it did map well for him but he still had to go out and execute it and that he did.”
“He did it very well, Tim began well and got into a nice rhythm throughout. He was in that good high cruising speed and was able to quicken off that nicely.” Adrian replied.
Greg then asked:
“Are you going to go back up to 1800m now?”
Adrian answered:
“Well it certainly opens up a few more options now, he has the scope to get up to 1800m and beyond in time - and he certainly will get a very strong mile which is where he's probably at his best.”
Debrief in the Winner's Circle as Tim Clark tells the story of how well ARBEITSAM went.
Gai Waterhouse was also interviewed and said “He’s a lovely type, a lovely sort of horse. There are only a handful of good front running jockeys in NSW and Tim Clark is one of them.”
“He’s a very versatile jockey and the clock in his head is super.”
“The old bone and muscle, he’s a very tenacious horse and he has come into his own as he’s matured. We might not worry so much about a major race in the spring but look at the Magic Millions with a long range forecast.”
The focus will turn to the Magic Millions in either the Cup, Trophy in January and then extend into the Autumn.”
Upon return to the Winner’s Circle Tim Clark was interviewed by Nic Ashman:
“Looking at the horse through those first sectionals, he looked to be travelling very well.”
Tim replied:
“Yes he took control of the race very early on, from there we set our own tempo. It was important not to turn it into a sit and sprint because that was going to be a disadvantage to us, so I made sure we had them rolling a fair way from home and credit to Gai and Adrian and the horse because it was a big effort to drop back 400m in a couple of weeks - the horse did a good job.”
Nic followed with:
“Did you have a look over your shoulder a see a hungry Bowman and Avdulla chasing?”
“No it was head down and pin my ears back and went for home.” Tim laughed.
Nic then asked:
“You don't mind a win in those colours - was it 2011 on Atomic Force in the Galaxy?”
“Yes it could have been about then - I've had great success in these colours for a long period of time for Dynamic Syndications and their good supporters of the game and myself, so it was good to get another winner for them.”
Tim cemented 3rd place on the Sydney Jockey Premiership for 2016/17 season with this win.
ARBEITSAM is a wonderful example of the success of the NSW BOBS Scheme.
This win became ARBEITSAM’s 4th BOBS Bonus for the season and has allowed his owners to bank an extra $65,000 in Bonus monies.
He picked up a $5,000 with his debut win at Wyong in November, then he has picked up another 3 Bonuses of $20,000 each for winning at Warwick Farm in January, then Warwick Farm and Rosehill in July.
Importantly, most of our owners take the “Double-Up” vouchers - claiming almost $117,000 in BOBS Bonus Vouchers to use towards re-investing into new BOBS horses.
ARBEITSAM with $65,000 BOBS Bonus monies, finished the 2016/17 season as “Runner-Up” to Zumbelina ($70,000) on the “BOBS TOP PERFORMERS Premiership Table.”
CONGRATULATIONS goes to ARBEITSAM, GAI and ADRIAN and the Team at GAI WATERHOUSE RACING, along with jet pilot TIM CLARK and importantly - the wonderful Team of Owners in ARBEITSAM:
