WOW ! What a sensational win by Dynamic Syndications latest Cult Hero “VINACEOUS” who blitzed a good quality field over the Cox Plate trip of 2040m.
VINACEOUS winning at Moonee Valley Friday 13/12
VINACEOUS ($15) carried 58.0kgs to win Race 8 the Thank You SES Volunteers Handicap Bm64 2040m defeating Positive Mind by 1 length with Green Ivy a further 1.75 lengths away in third.
They ran 2:05.41 coming home in 37.04 secs.
Like Father – Like Daughter was our immediate comparison for our tough mare as this Daughter of
our own COX PLATE Winner SAVABEEL won in the same racing manner as her fabulous father did when he was ridden by Chris Munce to claim for us the 2004 edition of the Cox Plate.
Racing is as much about dreams as it is about weights and measures and equally, as much as it is about
oil wells verse piggy banks!

Trainer Matt Laurie
Special mention goes to her
trainer MATT LAURIE. Matt and Adam Watt at Dynamic Syndications are mates and Adam had been insistent that we should give a horse to Matt Laurie too train. So, when we purchased VINACEOUS, we considered there would be more options for a horse like her in Victoria rather than NSW where they cater better for middle-distance racing and she would be a good kick-off point to build the relationship between the Matt Laurie Stable and Dynamic Syndications.
Matt and his dedicated team have been doing a sensational job with her and the results are on the resume.
Congratulations also to Matt and Adam for identifying this race as a suitable option.
We had her nominated for a race at Rosehill the previous Wednesday with a small field and we thought she would be well in that race and we had her nominated in another race next week.
However, despite this Moonee Valley event being much harder than the other two races, we could not turn down a good barrier and the services of
leading Melbourne pilot Damian Lane.
History now shows it was a masterstroke.
However, what was a masterstroke was the ride of Damian Lane, for which he won the Ride of the Night by the panel of Racing.com.
Honestly if you didn’t get to see it you wouldn’t comprehend what a win it was!
VINACEOUS is a bit temperamental and she was misbehaving a bit in the enclosure pre-race. Then heading onto the track, she started to get quite fidgety and was causing Damian Lane and the stable’s representatives some concern.
When she got onto the track and was behind the barriers, she was on her toes. Unfortunately, another runner cast a plate and had to be re-shod which caused a 5-minute delay and that revved her up further. Then she took hold and ran 100m away before Damian could get her back under control.
When they loaded into the barrier another horse played up and that set VINACEOUS off as well, so Damian Lane got out of the saddle.
Finally, they jumped away and the tempo was too quick from the outside as they ran along.
VINACEOUS was beaten for early toe and drifted back past mid-field on the fence but was in a good rhythm. Then as the field swung out of the home straight, the leaders dropped anchor and the tempo slowed too much, which caused Damian to check as he was close to the heels of the horse in front.
Well that was a red rag to a bull moment as VINACEOUS refused to play.
She then tried hard to disobey and almost clipped the horse in front giving Damian an awkward time. For a few strides it looked perilous. Then pressure was created upfront again and the tempo of the race increased quickly.
That allowed VINACEOUS to settle back into her rhythm where she was comfortable and then was able to allow Damian to angle off the fence into the running line should the need present.
At the half way mark, as they went into the top turn tempo came out of the race yet again as the leaders tried to steal a breather. Our top jockey was having none of that and knowing VINACEOUS was strong but without a turn of foot, took off to turn the race into a staying test.
VINACEOUS was set alight at the 800m, circling the field 4 deep to hit the front at the 750m normally far too early. However, Damian was there to win and he caught his peers off guard.
He dashed forward again and at the 600m found the fence and had a two-length lead at the 400m with the pressure applied to those chasing.
However, the tempo being run and the gap the Dynamic Duo had created, had those chasing well off the bit and there were no answers for the rest with VINACEOUS maintaining her big margin to record a 1 length win on the line.
Only the runner-up POSITIVE MIND made any impression to run her to 1 length. The rest just whacked away.
Damian’s ride was unusual but that won the race. Matt had VINACEOUS looking a picture and rock-hard fit and Damian knew he had the horse under him but also knew that without a turn of foot you can’t win from the back at Moonee Valley. He made it happen.
Right Race, Right Horse, Right Rider, Right Decisions made for the Right Result for her Owners.
VINACEOUS is a 4yo mare by SAVABEEL x VILLIFYE by O’Reilly, and she’s bred on the super cross for the sire which has bred 12 Stakes Winners including 4 Gr1 Winners.
VINACEOUS was originally purchased for $210,000 as a yearling from the NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale and on type and pedigree was worthy of the investment at that time.
Purchased by Bob and Sandra Peters from WA, those owners gave her one racing preparation as a 3yo where she raced 7 occasions in an attempt to win the WA Oaks. She won at 2000m was runner-up at a mile and ran 4th at a mile and then was 2.5 lengths 6th in a Listed Race at 2200m and 3.5 lengths 9th in the WA Oaks.
That race was on 30 March and was then culled by her owner.
However, we could see the merit in a slow maturing genetic mating and there were excuses in both her Stakes Races. Obviously, that didn’t please her then owners, so she was sent to the Hunter Valley to be offloaded in late May through the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
The team at Dynamic Syndications are always on the hunt for opportunities and when we saw her in the catalogue then being offered as a 3yo filly, just out of work being sold as breeding stock and knowing the deeds of SAVABEEL and what progeny to look out for on breeding crosses by the sire, this 3yo filly sparked our interest.
When we saw her at the sale, she was no longer in racing condition. She had been paddocked since the 1st April, and was a little “rolly-polly” and with a heavy winter coat looked more like a yak than a thoroughbred. However, the conformation was acceptable, she was sound, and despite having size and strength, she still looked immature.
We could see no reason not to buy her except her price going over our budget.
We thought she had plenty of upside but if things didn’t work out, we could re-sell her the following year. With money burning a hole in our pocket, we had a good budget for her but
we were gobsmacked when she was knocked down to Dynamic Syndications / Dean Watt Bloodstock (FBAA) for just $16,000 + GST. Oh the joys of an auction!
We sold her into 20 shares at just $1,410 inc GST per share.
Since then she has raced 5 times for Dynamic Syndication Ownership Team.
Her Career record is now
12 Starts: 3 Wins, 2 Seconds, 0 Thirds, 1 Fourth and $62,430.
She has won over
1600m, 2000m and 2040m and been runner-up at 1600m and 1690m.
VINACEOUS Hamilton Win at 1600m
However, for her new owners her resume is 5 starts: 2 Wins, 1 Second and earnings of $44,440.
She has won at Moonee Valley and Hamilton, and was desperately unlucky when a head second at Tatura when trapped deep.
She is worth a pretty-penny now as a broodmare, being a City winner with 3 race wins.
After all, she is a good-looking daughter of a Champion Sire SAVABEEL from VILLIFYE, a Gr2 Winner and Gr2 Placed mare and she is the half-sister to MISS KEEPSAKE who won the Gr1 Queensland Oaks.
Whilst she is a direct descendant from the Sir Tristram full-sister to GROSVENOR (Gr1 Vic Derby), NATIONAL GALLERY (WA Derby Gr1) KYRIE ELEISON (Gr3 Winner) and GARFUNKLE (Parramatta Cup LR).
Most Importantly, she is also free of Danehill blood so matches beautifully to all Danehill line sires.
The Win by VINACEOUS recorded our 22nd Win for this current racing season and recorded our 619th Overall race Win.
She recorded our 56th Win for the 2019 calendar year and she was our 16th Metro Winner for this Calendar Year.
