Winner Winner Chicken Dinner ! Dynamic Syndications galloper DREAM CHOICE (3yo g Redoute’s Choice / Patou) scored an emphatic win at Wyong on a bottomless Heavy 10 track on Thursday afternoon over the 1600m trip.
Contesting the APEX Insurance Group Cup (C2) 1600m, DREAM CHOICE (the 1/2 brother to Golden Slipper Winner POLAR SUCCESS) had been expertly trained to the minute by outstanding horseman David Payne at Rosehill and was rated to perfection by boom young apprentice rider Chad Schofield.
Starting Top Weight (even allowing for Chad’s 1.5kg claim) and stepping up to 1600m for the first time of his career, DREAM CHOICE previously had shown a dislike for Heavy surfaces however was never under pressure to secure this win.
Accounting for a quality field of up and coming middle distance horses, Chad Schofield followed race tactics perfectly and the horse did the rest.
This victory became 279th Race Win Dynamic Syndications purchased horses since October 2005 and was Dynamic Syndications 47th Race Win for the 2011-12 Racing Season.
From the barriers, Chad pushed forward in the first 200m and got himself into a front running position, sitting just off the anticipated race leader County Cavan. As they turned in the run heading down the back straight, Chad got the horse to settle beautifully just on the outside of the leader. Dream Choice bowed his head and hacked along under a tight hold.
He ploughed through the mud like an old pro and was full of running at the 600m. Kept together, those behind him started to struggle in the sloppy surface but Chad allowed Dream Choice some reign and he went up and eyeballed the leader on the turn. As they straightened, he quickly extended and got half a length in front. Chad knew he had the race won, so gave Dream Choice an easy time the last 100m. Despite giving the runner up both age and 3.5 kgs, his class shone through.
Starting favourite, connections were more hopeful than anything that he would be victorious but the weight, mud and first time at the 1600m were question marks. Their questions were answered in emphatic style.
Chad reported to owners present that “the horse was not totally comfortable in the going and could improve 3-4 lengths on this effort when on top of the ground.” He also stated that “he (Dream Choice) will be very competitive next start in the race we are targeting -it will be perfect for him.”
David Payne has done a wonderful job training the horse and this preparation had him cherry-ripe for this assignment. The team are now eyeing an ATC race meeting to be held at Gosford on 4 July - a 3yo Non Metropolitan Winners event over 1600m. However there are several other options also available.
Congratulations go to a loyal team of owners who are having a terrific time:
