Finally, TEAM DYNAMIC is
off the mark for the 2021/22 Racing Season, thanks to a
courageous win by our mare
ZOUFLU (Zoustar / Moonflute (by Danehill)), who gave a
110% effort to claim Race 2, the JB Civil Concreting Fillies & Mares Maiden Handicap over 1200m at Bathurst, running a slick time of
1:10.92 on a Soft 5 track which was softening further due to rain.
In the first 3 weeks of the new season, having recorded
72 Wins last season, we were in shock and a bit numb after scoring
eight (8) runner-up cheques plus two third placings. However, that sequence of close efforts without the chocolates is now broken, and we look forward to rapidly adding to our visits to the
Winner’s Circle.
Always the firm favourite in the betting, before drifting slightly in the last couple of minutes from $1.90 to
$2.20,
ZOUFLU (60.0kgs) took the length of the straight to reel-in the leader and eventual runner-up VASCOTTO (58.0kgs) ($6.50) going past it over the final 20m to record a 0.3 length Victory with SUMMER PASSAGE (55.5kgs) ($4.20) in third spot 1.2 lengths from us.
This was a
satisfying result for our
Owners and connections. The win has
increased her
commercial value in the breeding barn when racetrack retirement calls.
ZOUFLU has now raced on 6 occasions: 1 Win, 1 x Second, 1 x Third.
She is now a Winner at 1200m and has run 2nd at Canterbury over 1250m.
Her Sire
ZOUSTAR is doing the job and has himself well entrenched in the Top 10 Australian Sires Premiership, and the deeds of his progeny has seen his service fee jump to
$154,000.
Her Dam
MOONFLUTE by Danehill was a
Stakes Winner claiming the
Gr3 Furious Stakes over 1400m. She was Second in the
Flight Stakes Gr1 1600m,
Sweet Embrace Gr2 1200m, 3rd in the
Gr2 Hobartville S. Gr2 1400m and
Adrian Knox Gr3 2000m.
Based upon her conformation and type, our mare has thrown more to her
Dam MOONFLUTE, so we are anxious to get
ZOUFLU out in trip where we believe a
1400m to a mile will suit her better.
To be top-weight here, second-up from a spell, off only one barrier trial leading into her return race, we knew she would still be soft in condition, and may be out sprinted lumping the big weight. However, the pedigree page, genetics, the Ciaron Maher Racing Stables polish, perfect placement by Adam Watt from Dynamic, and an excellent ride by Brodie Loy all combined, and our mare came to the fore.
When the gates flung back,
ZOUFLU was well away with the leaders, but a couple pushed up underneath, so Brodie Loy using his experience wasn’t going to be trapped 3 deep on pace. He took hold after 150m and was able to get across and sit in the perfect one out / one back spot in fourth position, with the eventual third placed horse on his inside and Brodie had
ZOUFLU tracking the eventual runner-up Vascotto. The field was running along at a quick tempo, and they stayed in their positions until they turned into the straight.
Brodie peeled out off the heels of Vascotto to give chase whilst Summer Passage stole a gap one off the fence and made its challenge.
The field were running into a strong headwind down the straight and the work was hard for
ZOUFLU who could have been forgiven in thinking it was all too hard. However, Brodie Loy would not be denied and
ZOUFLU responded stride by stride. At the 150m it looked as if
ZOUFLU may not catch the leader but balance and rhythm, stride by stride,
ZOUFLU reeled-in the leader to hit the front with 20m to go and went past to record a widening 0.3 length margin.
Job Done!
