ZOUSTAR Mare MIZZY becomes 9th Stakes Winner for Sire Claiming Gr3 Toy Show

After being fourth in two Group 1 races last autumn and also having been beaten a nose in the Gr3 Ming Dynasty, Zoustar mare MIZZY had always promised to win a stakes race and she did that at Randwick on Saturday when scoring in the Group 3 ATC Toy Show Quality.

First-up from a spell, the four year-old mare had looked good in recent trials and started favourite for the 1100 metre sprint and powered clear to win by more than a length.

Mizzy ($3.30 fav) chalked up this black type success by beating Soothing ($14) by 1-1/4 lengths with My Xpression ($101) half a length back in third.

Berry had Mizzy in the box seat and came off the fence in the straight to win with ease.

Trainer Anthony Cummings said "I think there is still better to come for her.

"She has been out of her grade a lot of her life because I have always thought she was capable of doing something like she did today.

"In the Ming Dynasty she got beaten a nose and is a really good race mare now.

"She is going to have a really good carnival."

Cummings was keen to see Mizzy return to Group 1 level this spring, but is yet to decide on a her exact program.

"She has been a smidgen off (in Group 1’s) a couple of times so far and now she is stronger.

"She has run through the line very well today.

"The shorter trips are more to her liking. I think quality gets her to 1500m but 1100m to 1200m is her right trip."

Jockey Tommy Berry said “She’s a very exciting mare. She’s always raced in the highest of company and she was very tough, she had a lot of runs last prep.

“She came in so much stronger, she probably doesn’t look any bigger but she gives a great feeling underneath.

“She’s a lot more relaxed in the barriers, she’s a much nicer ride that’s for sure.

“She’s probably a late maturer because she’s only picked up on that this preparation. She’s like a fine wine, just takes a while.”

A $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase, Mizzy has won two of 14 starts and placed a further five times earning in excess of $335,580 in prizemoney.

Mizzy became the 9th stakes-winner for Zoustar, who also has 6 Stakes Placed horses. He is fully booked at Widden Stud this spring at a service fee of $154,000.

We have another Zoustar mare named TASK AND PURPOSE who is a winner and whom we have big races planned for this season.

Now that Zoustar’s service fee jumped up to $154,000, sadly his progeny will be priced out of the reach of most owners going forward, so the filly we have available will be one of the last our owners will have access to by the champion sire.
