ZOUSTAR’S Daughter SUNLIGHT the First 3YO Filly Since Alinghi in 2005 to Win NEWMARKET

ZOUSTAR’S
superstar filly
SUNLIGHT
upstaged one of the finest sprint fields ever assembled at Flemington with a brilliant win in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
SUNLIGHT winning the Newmarket Gr1
In this Newmarket she rose another level to beat leading sprinters the likes of Osborne Bulls, Brave Smash and Graff that were left in her wake.
She is the first three-year-old filly since Alinghi in 2005 to win the Newmarket.
The daughter of Zoustar showed speed to lead throughout and under the riding of talented South African jockey Barend Vorster, she proved much too good.
Barend Vorster did not have to wait long to make his mark in Australia. The former champion jockey in Singapore, Vorster made all the running on the daughter of Zoustar.
"Australia is my new home now and what a way to start it off," Vorster told AAP.
"I have to thank Tony and his team for associating me with a filly like her," Vorster said.
"She gave me a beautiful ride."
"She bounced beautifully, she relaxed beautifully. I was biding my time going to the 400 - she was just cruising along.
She was just waiting for me to press the button."
"Through the 200 and to the clock tower and I gave her a couple and she just extended again," Vorster added.
The $300,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase from Widden Stud has been a sensation during her racing career, one which shot to prominence on the Gold Coast last year when she won the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in the January.
Then late last year she beat the best sprinting three-year-olds in the country with a dashing win in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
Sunlight has advanced her record to 14 starts: 9 wins, 1 second and 3 thirds with earnings of $3,829,950.
"Isn't she something special," winning trainer Tony McEvoy said.
"She keeps stepping up to the plate."
"The further she gets into her prep the better she gets. She was so strong at the end of that 1200 today."
"I know she had a light weight, but she is a three-year-old filly and they were touting it to be one of the best fields."
"She's proven to be a star before today and she confirmed it today. It's an amazing ride she's given us. She's been a pleasure to train and she's got what most haven't."
Sold by Widden Stud to the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Sunlight was purchased for $300,000 by Aquis and McEvoy Mitchell Racing.
Sunlight is the fourth foal of the brilliantly fast Solar Charged. The Dam is by Charge Forward out of Soul Singer (Danehill) who was out Aretha who was a daughter of the Golden Slipper winner Sir Dapper.
Sunlight's 2yo sister Sisstar, who was purchased by McEvoy Mitchell Racing and David Redvers Bloodstock for $600,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. She finished fourth when making her career debut in the Ottawa Stakes at Flemington last November.
After foaling a Zoustar colt last October, Solar Charged was covered by Zoustar again last spring.
Sunlight is a great advertisement for the Magic Millions sales calendar.
She was a $300,000 yearling buy for Aquis Farm and McEvoy Mitchell Racing from Widden Stud at the 2017 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Her dam, the group winner Solar Charged (Charge Forward), was purchased from the National Broodmare Sale specifically for a date with the hot young Widden Stud sire Zoustar, himself another purchase through the famous Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
A winner of the Kindergarten Stakes and Thoroughbred Club Stakes, Solar Charged is also the dam of the group performer Sheikha and the exciting juvenile Sisstar, who was fourth at Group 3 level on debut last November for the McEvoy stable.
The success of ZOUSTAR is plain for all to see. He was Australia’s Leading First Season Sire last season and is again Leading Second Season Sire. He has produced 7 Stakes Winners and 5 Stakes Placegetters from 100 Runners with 50 Winners.
Incredibly ZOUSTAR is the leading Sire of 3yo’s in Australia by Earnings and Stakes Winners and Stakes Wins. He sits in front of I AM INVINCIBLE, REDOUTE’S CHOICE and SNITZEL.
ZOUSTAR at stud
Industry talk is that ZOUSTAR is going to have a massive service fee increase in 2019. Last season he stood for $60,500 however on the strength of his wonderful success with his first crop now 3yo’s and he is Australia’s best sire of 3yo’s the market is bracing itself to believe a figure of $150,000 may be set on this boom young sire.
ZOUSTAR has had a wonderful season in the salering in 2019 unless you are a buyer – then you have to dig deeper to afford one.
His first crop now 3yo’s averaged $184,000 inn 2017 whilst his second crop averaged $190,000 in 2018. Across all sales in 2019, he is averaging $264,000 which is an increase of 39% to date with his Australian Easter Yearling Sale lots still to be offered.
Dynamic Syndications purchased
2
spectacular fillies by
ZOUSTAR
at the Magic Millions Sale this year.
ZOUSTAR / MOONFLUTE Filly
The first was a daughter of Stakes Winning / Gr1 Placed
MOONFLUTE
which we went to the market with and was sold out in 10 days. She is being trained by
CIARON MAHER
and was priced at $12,885 per 5% Share and now looks an absolute bargain for those investors.
The second filly we purchased was also out of Stakes Winning / Gr1 placed
MOON DE FRENCH
which we have decided to deliberately hold back from the market at this stage.
ZOUSTAR x MOON DE FRENCH filly
She will be raced in co-ownership with Leading Hunter Valley Thoroughbred Stud
NEWGATE FARM
and will be trained by
GAI WATERHOUSE
and
ADRIAN BOTT
.
Incredibly the planets aligned and we bought both the fillies late in the Saturday evening session. They were consecutive lots. The MOON DE FRENCH filly was lot
827
and the MOONFLUTE filly was Lot
828
. We paid
$150,000 + GST
for each filly. They were sensational buying.
Our
MOON DE FRENCH
filly will also be offered at
$12,885
per share, the same price as our MOONFLUTE Filly, when we release her to the market.
