The hottest first season sire at the sale yards is NORTHERN METEOR. The brilliantly quick Gr1 winning son of Champion Sire ENCOSTA DE LAGO. After 3 sessions Northern Meteor has had 30 yearlings go under the hammer for an average of $111,750. This is a terrific result across the board off a service fee of $33,000 (3.4 times). We have bid on several during the sale and missed out as we refused to chase.
However we had our hearts set on Lot 404 being offered by leading Queensland nursery LYNDHURST STUD.
The colt is from VILLA VALENCIA (by Belong To Me). The colt comes from a family that has been very good to Dean Watt giving him and Dynamic Syndications great success. Dean syndicated POLAR SUCCESS as well as Dream Choice and Scent Of Joy as well as our latest star from the family PLATAMONE CASTLE.
She is 3/4 sister to SP Parfumier, 1/2 sister SP Patou (dam of Golden Slipper Winner POLAR SUCCESS), Icecapade (dam of SW AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN'). Her first foal Villa Albania has been placed at 2. Her second foal by Red Ransom sold for $120,000 is yet to race.
Rated an A 301% and with a Best Of Sale rating at 1.0 this colt on pedigree ratings was one of the top rated horses in the whole catalogue. Bred on the awesome Encosta De Lago over Danehill line mares, this has produced 11 Stakes Winners including Gr1 winners ALOHA and DELAGO DELUXE.
It's easy to see when inspecting yearlings at the sales why the boom is on this first crop sire. They are all stamped by him with outstanding balance and athleticism, good bone with size and strength. The high majority look similar which is good for a dominant stallion. His brilliant speed came from his conformation and there is little doubt this conformation is passed into his stock. Widden Stud look to be on a winner with this stallion and the market has responded with his progeny having sold up to $420,000 with supporting sales of $220,000 $200,000 $165,000 $160,000, etc.
The vendors are an institution in Qld and known for their integrity and transparency. We knew prior to the horse entering the ring that they had planned to meet the market and sell the yearling at a realistic reserve of just $50,000. They knew he would sail well past that figure they just wanted the market to determine where it would settle. After a spirited bidding dual, Dynamic Syndications owned the colt for just $77,500 + GST = $85,250. With the average at $111,750 this was a terrific buy for such a well bred, commercial yearling with excellent conformation and clean X-rays. We valued the colt at 3 - 3.5 times service fee ($100,000 - $120,000) so to buy him at a cost of $85,250 was a massive discount.
