Trainer Darren Smith & Dynamic Syndications added another score to our ever growing tally of winners on Saturday at Newcastle when promising galloper Chiliad (Jet Spur / Millennium) broke through at his 4th career start over 1200m in race 3 the Customs Electronics & Automotive Set Weights Maiden.
Chiliad is a 1/2 brother to Group 1 winner La Montagna winner of the Stradbroke Handicap.
Chiliad has always shown ability however was injured as a young horse and has struggled to maintain soundness. A decision was made to send the horse from his city trainer to the stables of Darren Smith at Newcastle who is a magician when it comes to getting horses with issues, sound again for racing. With a lot of care, Darren and his team nursed the horse back to soundness and his form is terrific and owner's patience is starting to be rewarded.
At his first race start he ran 4th at Canterbury when racetrack inexperience cost him dearly as he ran off the track towards the outside fence on straightening and then flashed home. Then he went to Warwick Farm and his rider got hopelessly locked away in a pocket and is still looking for a way out. That day he went to the line untested. He had a setback again after that run and had 72 days between starts when he went to Wyong and put in a terrific effort when 3rd but he just ran out of gas the final 100m. So in his first three starts he had genuine excuses. However in this event he dominated from the front and was never in doubt.
Jumping well and pushing forward, the horse started to over race early but under the reins of excellent horseman Dale Spriggs, he got Chiliad to come back under saddle and despite setting a very quick tempo under his 58.0 kgs, Chiliad was controlling the speed as they turned for home. Still in front, Dale waited until balanced before kicking clear. Giving away 2.5kgs in weight to the second and third runners, Dale kept him going forward to maintain his winning advantage in a time of 1:12.30
Chiliad wasn't missed in the ring, being backed in from $2.80 to start a clear odds-on favourite.
Chiliad was Dynamic's 16th race win for the new 2011 / 12 Racing Season with Darren Smith training 8 of these winners for us.
Chiliad was our 247th win under the Dynamic Syndications banner.
Statistics show Dynamic have now 95 individual winners from 122 individual runners and a total of 118 have earned prizemoney.
Congratulations to the owners of Chiliad: D W Watt, D C I Synd (Mgr: D M Shannon), A Bradley, C & Mrs T Georgiou, R Hefford & M J O'Shannassy.
May there be much more racetrack success and visits to the Winner's Circle to come.
