A recent change of stables has done the trick for beautifully bred filly Icy Mist when second up from a spell, the mare proved far too good for her opposition to score a dominant all the way victory Beverley Hills Hotel Handicap a 0MW event over 1550m.
This was one of the relatively new grade of races being a Provincial Bowl which is restricted to non metropolitan winners that have raced a minimum of 4 races at the provincials over the past 12 months. Looking terrific in the pre race parade and with the polish of Sydney's leading trainer Chris Waller upon the mare, in form hoop Jimmy Cassidy took the reigns and gave the field a galloping lesson.
Under the impost of 57.5kgs, Jimmy Cassidy got the mare to jump well and push forward attacking for the lead as they went into the first turn and allowed her to slide forward setting a solid tempo. ICY MIST applied further pressure as Jimmy pushed the go button and the mare dashed a length clear on straightening. Being second up from a spell 1550m we were a little worried she may feel the pinch at the 150m, but instead she kicked again and then went on to score by 1 1/4 lengths.
Jimmy brought ICY MIST back to scale to be greeted by a bunch of excited owners whom had just experienced winning in town for the first time with their promising mare. Jimmy had told the owners how he planned to ride the mare and rode the mare exactly that way. It's fantastic when pre race plans work out. ICY MIST has now raced on 9 occasions, 3 wins, 1 second, 1 third. She had won 2 provincial races last preparation and is now a city winner and the way she won on Friday night it would suggest as the distances increase and she gets beyond a mile she will be better suited.
Starting second favourite, ICY MIST was in the race after being a late scratching at Warwick Farm on Wednesday afternoon after rain saw the track downgrade. The stable was keen to scratch her when the track was rain affected and we agreed with the thoughts and she was taken out.
