A team of very happy connections were on hand at Rosehill on Saturday for the resumption run of Dynamic Syndications ghostly grey galloper SUPERIOR INSTINCT.
The horse was presented in magnificent condition at the races and was no doubt the pick of the yard.
Sent out at the juice odds of $51 with Jimmy Cassidy in the saddle, connections were confident the horse could run in the first 3 home and with luck we could pick up some pointy end prizemoney.
That's exactly what happened and whilst we found PAMPELONNE a little better than us on the day, we took great comfort from the fact that they are touting the winner a future Stakes Winner yet we carried equal top weight of 58.5kgs whilst the winner carried just 54.0kgs some 4.5kgs less. With the rule of thumb being 1.5kgs = 1 length therefore 4.5kgs = 3 lengths. Yet we were defeated 2.5 lengths, so for our first run in a long period we were delighted in his effort.
Running second added more prizemoney to his tally which is now $227,960. Not a bad effort as far as honesty goes, for a horse that has only won 4 races but this was the 11th time he has run second (ouch !) with also 4 thirds.
Jimmy Cassidy was full of praise for our sprinter who travelled well throughout tracking the winner 3 pairs back but when the winner sprinted, Superior Instinct was anchored under the big weight and despite the impost, we clearly beat home the balance of the big field.
He is a difficult horse to place as the racing calendar does not suit at the moment but we believe we will have some fun after the carnival.
