ADRIAN BOTT
(Co-Trainer at Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing)

DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS

are Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott's

PRIMARY SYNDICATORS

ADRIAN BOTT with jockey Tommy Berry

A graduate of the Darley’s Flying Start, Adrian Bott joined Gai Waterhouse as an Assistant Racing Manager in 2012.

This was a great introductory role into every aspect of the business that enabled him to progress into the position of Racing Manager in 2013

Adrian became the first point of contact between Gai Waterhouse and her owners.

There were over 800 owners involved in the stable and over 300 horses on their books, so communication between the stable and owners was paramount to the success of owner’s experiences. Adrian’s role also included the purchasing and selling of new horses for the stable through yearling sales, racing stock sales and private transactions.

During Adrian’s time with Gai, he had worked with racetrack heroes such as Pierro, More Joyous, Overreach and Fiorente.

For the next 3 years, Adrian progressed from a racing administrator in a racing stable office, to working hands on with the horses, standing by Gai’s side, learning the morning training regime and absorbing the secrets that had made Gai such a wonderful trainer.

Adrian, Gai & Adam keeping their eye on Trackwork

Just the same way as Gai Waterhouse was at the side of her genius training father, the late, great Tommy Smith during his amazing run of 33 straight Sydney Trainers Premierships (34 in total).

Gai applied for her own license to train in her own right back in 1992, after much publicised pain of that process, she was eventually granted her own licence and has never looked back.

Her own Group 1 tally is equally as significant. So many of them have come at her much-loved Randwick but the Golden Slipper is a personal triumph as she sits equal with TJ at six.

At the start of the 2016/17 racing season, as part of her forward thinking succession plan, Gai and her business model changed. She united with Adrian Bott in a co-training arrangement at Tulloch Lodge.

Adrian said of his journey on becoming a partner to the Melbourne Cup-winning trainer.

"I was fortunate enough to have a great foundation being born into the industry," he said.

"I grew up in the Hunter Valley in Scone at the then Segenhoe Stud, growing up around the horses all your life, doing yearling preparations, attending sales... it was good to have such an early foundation as that.

"I then worked as a cadet steward at Racing NSW, which gave me a different introduction to the racing industry. I learnt all the rules of racing and saw racing from a different perspective.

"That led me into a scholarship with the Darley Flying Start – it was a two-year program based at their studs internationally, England, Ireland, America, Dubai and here in Australia.

"That helped kick-start it all and when I finished, there was an opening at Gai's.

"Dad's always raced horses with Gai over the years, I knew Gai from an early age and it was a great way to kick it off."

The Dynamic Duo of Gai and Adrian had their first runner together on the 6th August 2016, a filly named THORNUM and she won the Listed Rosebud.

Since then, it’s been the fillies and mares which has given the duo the great successes thanks to the deeds of such horses as Global Glamour, Pinot, English, Prompt Response, etc.

Adrian is now in his fourth (4th) season as the co-trainer at Tulloch Lodge and as such, Adrian Bott has assumed significantly more of the workload as Gai takes a more back-seat mentors role as the younger Adrian Bott, thanks to his youthful enthusiasm, is deeply committed to the daily grind.

The co-training relationship has proven to be an exceptionally successful one which is bearing witness by their outstanding success on the racetrack.
