By sending up to Randwick specific horses for hit and run visits, horses that are BOBS Eligible maximise their earning potential whilst it also ensures he has a base for Spring and Autumn Carnivals.

Peter Moody today is one of Australia's leading trainers –

He was the conditioner of the world's highest-rated galloper Black Caviar and the man who trained the 2009/10 Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy.

Importantly to Dynamic Syndications and not to be forgotten, he was the trainer of our own Group 1 Superstar REWARD FOR EFFORT.

Besides the champs, he has simply dominated the Victorian training ranks in the past three years, simply amazing considering he came from a Caulfield base of only eight horses a decade ago to in 2009/10, break the 32 year domination of the Victorian Trainers Premiership by the Hayes and Freedman clans.

Moody’s rise has been meteoric and dynamic. So much so that rival trainers offer their respect to their peer for his success, work ethic and ability to churn out winners from maidens to Group 1 winners.

History

Peter has done fantastically well over the past few seasons.

At the completion of the 2009/2010 Racing Season the Moody Stables were extremely proud to announce they had won their first Melbourne Premiership (Metropolitan) and have also finished on top of the Victorian Premiership (Metro & Country combined), it had been an incredible season for the stable, Typhoon Tracy having won 4 Group 1's for the season with Headway & Wanted also taking out the Champion status in their divisions.

The stable hasn't stopped winning the Melbourne Trainers Premiership since.

In the autumn of 2009 Moody trained three Group 1s, in three different states. Reward For Effort won the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield, Typhoon Tracy the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill and Markus Maximus the WA Derby.

It was this 2009/10 season that propelled Moody to racing’s rarefied status. He had trained Typhoon Tracy to four Group 1 wins; the Myer Classic, Orr Stakes, Futurity Stakes and NSW’s Queen of the Turf Stakes, to earn her the title of Victorian and Australian Horse of the Year.

He took Headway to victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at the Flemington Carnival and Wanted to success in Australia’s premier sprint handicap, the Newmarket Hcp after a frustrating three consecutive Group 1 places.

Moody had a well earned reputation for handling fillies and mares, but now he was being recognised for earning stallion prospects their vital Group 1 honours.

He did so with Magnus, Reward For Effort and Wanted, and in the Spring of 2010 he added Anacheeva when that colt won the stallion-making Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.

By season’s end, Moody bolted in the Victorian Trainers’ Premiership with 83 wins, and he also added the combined metropolitan and country title.

His premiership win ended a 32 year domination of the title by the Hayes and Freedman clans and was so emphatic that rivals were in awe of his horsemanship, hard work and potential.

Peter Moody acknowledged all the owners who had supported him and special thanks went to the hard working staff that had made this possible.

Peter also wanted to congratulate stable rider Luke Nolen who took out his first Melbourne Jockey Premiership. It had been a remarkable season beyond what they could have hoped for and they thanked all those who had made it possible.

Again in 2010/11 Racing Season the team at Peter Moody Racing led the way with a clear and decisive margin and made it back to back premierships.

They won their 2nd Melbourne Trainers Premiership in a row, finished 2nd in Australia overall, and finished at the top of the Group 1 winning trainers list and were, like the rest of the racing population, in awe of the deeds of Black Caviar. She returned in 2010/2011 after a long break because of injury after winning her first five starts. She ended her campaign back then with her 13th straight win having trounced rivals in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland and created some remarkable scenes on her journey.

Black Caviar had quickly taken Peter Moody to another level. At one stage she was rated equal top rated racehorse in the world, which is an amazing feat for an Aussie !

As she was heading for Horse of the Year honours, Moody continued his blitz at all levels to be assured his second successive Victorian Trainers Premiership. He boasted almost double the winners of any trainer in the state, and treble the number of city winners.

The prospect of another premiership, another Horse of the Year title and a stable full of winners confirmed the Moody meteor was gathering momentum.

Again in the 2012/13 Racing Season he has kicked clear and made it 4 Premierships in a row.

About Peter's Career

Peter Moody's first taste of Group 1 success came in November 2001 when his Carnegie colt Amalfi won the VRC Derby. This win helped establish Peter in Victoria where he had set up a small satellite stable. In 2003, Peter closed his Queensland operation to concentrate on his expanding Caulfield base.

Growing up in Charleville in Country Queensland and having worked for legendary trainers T.J. Smith & Colin Hayes, Peter went on to be foreman for Bill Mitchell for 10 years before applying and being granted a number one trainers license.

In 2003 not only did it see Peter and his family move to Victoria and take up stables at his new Caulfield base but it also brought the next Group 1 success Ancient Song. She won the Group 1 Salinger Stakes.

In 2004 Sky Cuddle took out the Group 1 Emirates Stakes. Further Group 1 success has followed with Testafiable taking out that year's S.A. Derby.

In his first full racing season of 2004/05 Peter won the Victorian Country Trainers premiership and finished second on the Victorian Premiership.

The 2005/2006 season saw Peter’s success continue with over 160 winners for the year, finishing 3rd on the Metropolitan premiership with over 50 winners, 2nd on the Victorian & Victorian Country Premiership and 5th in Australia.

As the season passed, Peter’s success grew tall from these solid foundations.

Caulfield

Today, there are 60 horses in the stables at Caulfield and Peter believes this is a manageable number that allows him to keep track of each horse and give it his personal attention.

One of the things that Peter likes about Caulfield is that the training facilities are excellent. It enables him to train his horses as individuals in a quiet atmosphere with plenty of time and room.

Peter prides himself on his strike rate and believes that winning becomes a habit, so he places his client's horses where he thinks they can win. He will go anywhere for the right races, from Tasmania to Darwin to Perth and all tracks in between.

Peter's training approach is to prepare each horse for its strengths, whether it's a sprinter, a middle distance horse or a stayer and according to his client's objectives.

This flexible approach allows him to provide a complete training service across the board.

By seeing each horse as an individual, they can be given their own routine so that that Peter doesn't have to drive them onwards if they are not ready to cope with the work. He has a similar approach to feeding: Peter's method is "I work to my feed and feed to my work".

A major ingredient of Peter's success is the team around him Peter's assistant trainer Tony Haydon has been with him for 12 years and a lot of Peter's success can be attributed to Tony's care and attention.

Racing Manager Jeff O'Connor assists with the important task of placing horses to their best advantage and client liaising.

Marni Kelly handles the office administration.

Peter's wife Sarah, an experienced horse woman, assists not only with the running of the office but also with trackwork and the running of their spelling farm Carbrecel Park.

The stables at Caulfield consist of 60 boxes & 10 day yards in a modern building with excellent infrastructure on the Caulfield site for exercising, washing, swimming and feeding horses.

When not in training, the horses are spelled at Peter's own farm Carbrecel Park, other regularly used farms are Rockmount at Euroa, Cloverdale and Briarwood Agistment both at Pakenham.

All horses are pre trained for a minimum 3-4 weeks or more before coming into the Caulfield stable. Horses that have suffered injuries or have wear and tear issues from the rigours of racing are sent to the water walker at Murchison for approximately 8 weeks. This is a non impact way of getting the horses to an advanced fitness level before coming to the Caulfield stables.

Our client communication is a priority for Peter’s stable. Reports are sent to us by email and followed up with constant telephone communications between us. With full understanding of each and every aspect, we then disburse this information immediately through our communications system to keep owners up to date on their horse’s progress, whether they are in training, spelling or pre training.
