The latest stats highlight some sires flying under the radar doing a wonderful job, punching well above their weight division Forget prizemoney as a determining factor because if a stallion flukes a good one, this distorts and skewer’s the true success (or failure) of a young sire whose progeny may not have had the same luxury of lobbing into a leading stable as compared to the others. We like to use Total Number of Winners as a Key Performance Indicator along with Strike Rate Percentage of Winners to Runners. This puts the focus on success over marketing and hype.

150th Group 1 Win Trained by GAI WATERHOUSE

Australian Racing's Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse reached another career milestone at Eagle Farm on Saturday, winning her 150th Group 1 race when taking the Stradbroke Handicap. Alligator Blood, who is trained by Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, successfully returned from surgery to win the $2 million, 1400-metre race. Alligator Blood was the 16th Gr1 Win for the Waterhouse and Bott partnership adding to the 134 Waterhouse captured as a trainer in her own right.

Ridden by James McDonald, Political Debate showed his inexperience by racing greenly after things did not go to plan but was still able to scrape home over Kiwi raider Sharp ‘n’ Smart. American Pharoah’s two graded stakes winners came at seven furlongs on the dirt and 1¼ miles (2000m) on the turf, continuing to show the versatility of the US Triple Crown winner’s progeny. At Hawkesbury on Tuesday a talented two-year-old daughter of American Pharoah named Yankees (2f American Pharoah x Mine Two, by I Am Invincible) won on debut against older horses.

TAHOMA Produces a Dominant WIN as the First 2YO Runner in USA for New Sire JUSTIIFY (USA)

Coolmore’s undefeated USA superstar JUSTIFY (USA) kicked off his stud career in perfect fashion in California on Sunday when his first runner named TAHOMA cruised to victory at Santa Anita in a dominant debut victory. Two-year-old colt Tahoma was sent out favourite for the 4½ f (900m) 2YO maiden in a field of eight debutantes. Tahoma powered clear of his rivals to win with authority over 900m by a widening 2 lengths in 53.89.
