We are now eight months of the way through the 2020-21 Racing Season and at this point of the season we can have a meaningful look at the stats behind the Australian Sires Premierships and see which stallion is doing the job and which are not performing as anticipated. Also, it’s a timely snapshot prior to heading into the Easter Yearling Sales and before the big prizemoney is disbursed over the Autumn Carnival, incorporating The Championships, where a stallion may have one horse that could potentially skewer the data.

Caravaggio became the FIRST Northern Hemisphere Freshman SIRE to record a WINNER when TENEBRISM (2f Caravaggio x Immortal Verse, by Pivotal) bolted home at Naas on Sunday. A Brilliant dual Group 1 winning sprinter himself, Caravaggio (USA) during his racing days was rightly referred to as the “Ballydoyle Bullet.” He shuttled to Coolmore Australia for only the one season and that crop are now yearlings being offered at our sales this year.

The stats are racking-up for the “quiet achiever” among this season’s First Crop sires when USA racetrack hero American Pharoah (USA) posted his third Australian winner from just six (6) runners on Thursday evening when on debut Patton produced a brilliant win at Pakenham. Patton became the third Australian winner for American Pharoah’s first crop in the Southern Hemisphere, having already sired 14 stakes-winners and 13 stakes-placed in the Northern Hemisphere, three (3) of them Group 1 winners and another five (5) Group 1 placegetters.

Standing at the powerhouse thoroughbred nursery Waikato Stud, super sire SAVABEEL added to his Group 1 tally last Saturday when his daughter Amarelinha (Savabeel-Hopscotch, by O'Reilly) won the Gr1 New Zealand Oaks to become the twenty-second individual Group 1 winner.

"Newcastle’s third generation trainer Jason Deamer enjoyed a terrific strike rate in the latter part of 2020. With the majority of his stables occupied by Dynamic Syndications horses, Deamer’s winner on Boxing Day, AWESOME LAD, was the trainer’s seventh in his past 20 runners and all owned by the “Dynamic” team. Awesome Lad then went on to finish runner-up twice at Warwick Farm. Deamer’s grandfather Carl was a successful jockey at Newcastle and Jason’s father John was also successful as both a jockey and trainer.
