$725,000 USD for AMERICAN PHAROAH Filly on Day 1 Keeneland Sales

During the opening session of the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale AMERICAN PHAROAH had eight yearlings sell for an Average $338,125 USD with a $305,000 USD Median. Lot 72, was an American Pharoah filly out of the broodmare Taylor S, was purchased for $725,000 taking pole position as the most expensive yearling by American Pharoah during the Day 1 opening session.

The Freedman-trained ASTERN Colt BACKROWER went off a short-priced favourite and got the job done, against the willing and progressive Extreme Choice filly Wollombi. Backrower has now had 4 starts: 2 Wins, 1 Second, 1 Third. ASTERN is having a terrific run to start the new season. Backrower was the fifth (5th) Individual Winner for his sire in the first month of the new 2022-23 Racing Season and follows-on from ASTERN having two (2) Gr3 placed runners-up on Saturday with AFT CABIN and GOLDEN MILE plus a win by Miss Tapestry on Sunday and another placing of Astern’s Girl on Monday.

Saturday saw Darley based sire ASTERN – winner of the Gr1 Golden Rose, produce two (2) colts that faced the starter with both finishing runners-up in their respective Gr3 assignments. AFT CABIN added valuable black type to his pedigree when he was runner-up to Jacquinot in the H.D.F. McNeil Stakes Gr3 at Flemington.
