Canberra Race Club’s feature Maiden over their two-day carnival is the “Lickety Split” over 1000m at Set Weights. The race is worth $40,000 with $24,000 to the winner. Also a $10,000 bonus if the winner breaks 57.00 secs. Our Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained 3yo filly I AM ME (I AM INVINCIBLE x MEFNOODA) blitzed her rivals as a $1.60 favourite. Ridden by Tommy Berry, I AM ME jogged over the line with a 2.8 length margin over runner-up Tempestas, with Lovero in third spot. I AM ME stopped the clock at 56.55 secs despite being eased down the final 100m and claimed the $10,000 bonus.

On Sunday at Coonamble it was their Showcase Meeting and Country Championships qualifier heat. The Club invited and flew up to their meeting Sydney’s two best jockeys, James McDonald and Hugh Bowman. It was the 148th Group 1 Win for Gai, 134 in her own right and the 14th Gr1 success in partnership with Adrian Bott.

Dynamic Debutant 3yo Filly EXTREME GEM Sparkles

On Tuesday afternoon, 1st March the provincial Kembla Grange meeting was transferred down the highway to Goulburn to escape the sodden track. Our Dynamic Syndications 3yo filly EXTREME GEM (Extreme Choice x Encosta Jewel) trained by Richard Freedman was to face the starter for the first time. Despite being inexperienced, and still having a lot to learn regarding racecraft, and knowing she is bred to want further than the 1200m of this debut trip, our filly was far too good for her peers with a very soft win.
